Kitten in the bar.

He's curled up in one of the booths, hazel eyes closed. Anyone that walks past would hear the purring. It's a soothing sound even if the one making the sound is nice and broken.

After getting Han's note but before heading outside, Demeter spots Ben and curls up around him giving him one of her patented hugs.

He feels her, that familiar scent on the air and when she curls around him, hugging him... He snuggles back into her that purr getting a bit louder in volume.

A few tears slip into his hair, too many children hurt here and she can't help them and it hurts.

Also the pain of fields that can't feed enough and get drowned by nature being cruel.

The purring stops and he frowns, nuzzling her a bit. "What's wrong?" Though a part of him isn't sure if it's okay to ask. Even if she has become like a mother to him. Something back in his own world, he doesn't have.

Never will have. He's just a broken soldier that Manticore wants to fix and when they can't fix him will want to tear him apart.

She strokes his hair as she answers,

"Can't save everyone and the fields are doing so much but its not enough."

He cants his head a bit.

"Not meant to be able to save everyone. Too much for one person." He whispers. "Maybe they need more than just you to care for them. More people."

He doesn't know. He's only guessing.

"I'm a goddess though, should be able to do more."

"No." Ben says softly, nuzzling her and purring. "Should only do what you can. Can't do more than what's required. Break that way."

"I know but still hurts, fields cry out in pain that they can't do enough."

"Just need more people." He whispers.

She gives a small nod and hugs him a little tighter,

"How are you, Ben?"

He nuzzles her and curls up against her more. Almost the way a house cat would.

"Met a little girl not that long ago."

"What was she like?"

Little girls are hopeful far too long since Kore was one.

"Cute. Liked the purring." He scrunches his nose a bit but it's obvious the next statement of what she did, didn't bother him. "Petted Ben too."

"That was nice of her. How little was she?"

[x5_493_ben]

"Really little. Kept calling me 'Kitty'. Think she wanted to keep me." Because of the purring.
