At this very moment in the town of Coeur d'Coeurs, Young Ned was 9 years, 27 weeks, 6 days, and 3 minutes old. His dog, Digby, was 3 years, 2 weeks, 6 days, 5 hours, and 9 minutes old...and not a minute older.Digby loved to play, and loved to play with Ned. Running down the hill from Ned's house, Digby crossed into a highway where an 18-wheeler ( Read more... )

It's true that Adam hadn't been back to the bar in a long time.

But it's also true that, since his trip with Alanna, it's been a lot less intimidating. Aside from which, his video games are here. Can't make THOSE work in Olau. And so it is that Adam is sitting in a nearby table, drinking a cider.

(This one from Olau. Some things are just better there.)

When the boy and the dog enter, he quirks an eyebrow, but manages a smile for the kid. Don't need to scare him right off, after all.

Someone is noticing Ned.

Someone Ned doesn't know, but that goes without saying, here.

"Hello," the boy manages eventually, shy but sure of himself. Digby, for his part, sits just outside of arm's length to Ned's right.

"'lo," Adam manages back, and leans down to get a better look at the dog.

"He yours?"

The bowl-cut of Ned's hair swishes back and forth as he nods 'yes', Digby moving forward slightly at being recognized.

"His name is Digby. We were playing, and..."

And Digby died.

"...And we ended up here."

There's another boy in the bar, perhaps a year older than Ned, covered in a variety of foodstuff stains and remnants, scrubbing off his head and clothes with a large fluffy white towel. He's currently muttering about not having dinner with the rest of his class, before the towel, now throughly dirtied and the boy much improved upon for it's efforts, is handed to a waitrait with a small tip.

It's right about then he notices the fellow member of the blonde and estranged and waves shyly at the boy. "Heya."

This is almost more intimidating, for Ned. Adults are supposed to be different, but this new boy is almost Ned's age. Older, only by a bit.

Ned gives a short wave, but the golden retriever at his side seems enthusiastic.

In Digby's heart of hearts, there is nothing he would want more than for someone that Ned can play with.

It takes a moment for Tyler to recognize the expression on the other boy's face. The slightly startled eyes, darting around at the other patrons, the frozen stance, despite a happy dog looking around at everyone, and smelling all of their interesting smells.

"You're new here, huh?"

Not the most charming of introductions, but it will suffice, yes?

"Yes. My name is Ned." Gesturing to his dog, "And he's Digby. What's your name?"

This isn't the first time Shaun's seen a kid at Milliways, but the ones he's met have usually had adults with them.

"You alright, kid?"

Ned is a little awed, taking in his new surroundings with a mixture of trepidation and curiosity.

"I'm new here."

With just a hint of obvious.

He manages a bit of a smile.

"Guessed as much. Most people don't expect to wander in here."

"Where is...here, mister?"

Digby would like to know too, as he's now moved closer to Shaun and found a comfortable spot between Ned and the man.
