As a general rule, being chased down by determined police officers tends to be a deterrent to would-be thieves. Unfortunately, the ones in Sandford are either very stubborn or very thick, which is why Nicholas Angel is in the middle of his third foot chase of the week as he sprints through the door. There's a slightly undignified stumble as the ( Read more... )

Danny's not too far behind Nicholas in the chase, but Christ is that guy fast. And as if by some kind of gravitational pull, he's also sucked into Milliways -- but he can't stop himself in time before he crashes bodily into him.

In order to not send them both tumbling to the floor, there's a fair bit of grabbing and flailing and some more stumbling, and miraculously, Danny manages to keep himself and Nicholas upright.

He apologetically straightens out Nicholas's shirt.

"Sorry. Heh."

"'S alright."

In fact he doesn't look at all happy, but that's definitely not Danny's fault.

"Hell of a time to end up here."

Danny rubs the sweat off his forehead with the back of his hand.

"We were so close, too. But at least the little bugger ain't going nowhere while we're in here."

"Good point. You'd think they'd learn, really."

Ace squeaks and holds up her hands.

What?

Two cops just ran through the door! And some reflexes are a pain in the butt to get rid of.

"I swear I don't have the muscles t'lift a store."

The smart mouth is a really ingrained reflex too. There's a reason she got run in a lot as a kid.

He almost smiles at that, but he's too far into Professional Mode to let it show through the scowl.

"Practiced that line a lot, eh?"

Ace keeps her hands up. Just because she can survive being shot doesn't mean she enjoys it any.
"I always want t'be prepared in case I'm randomly accused of theft, yes." Ace deadpalms, easily.

The woman's initial reaction takes him aback a little and he almost laughs. He also removes his hand from the pair of cuffs clipped to his belt. Since when did that become a reflex? He swears, it's not like him. Things are just wonky today.

He motions for her to lower her hands.

"Naw, 's'okay, you wasn't the one we was after."

He doesn't recognize the uniform but clearly two men in authority, Will just freezes with his drink at his mouth and stares.

As he catches his breath, he loosens his collar and looks around. Noticing the startled man at the bar, he gives him a nod and a non-threatening little wave.

"Hullo."

In Nick's experience, people who are uncomfortable with authority figures usually have a good reason for it. He merely gives the man a neutral nod of greeting.

Danny reminds Will of some of the men in Nottingham and Danny seems to exude men at armsness, so he salutes them with his drink,

"Fair eve, sirs, 'ope Milliways finds ye well."

[OOC: Marvellous. ^_^]

It's not the expletive that really catches Sam's attention, though it does prompt her to look up from the last sip of her cup of tea. But the word "shoplifter" -- well, she's been at the station long enough to know what to make of that, and so her expression quickly shifts from surprise to sympathy.

'Did you lose them, sir?' she asks as she stands up and brushes a wrinkle out of her skirt. 'Was it a proper gang of them?'

The most that Hastings ever usually sees is the odd schoolboy nicking a pear when the greengrocer's back is turned. But she's read the papers enough to know that there are some smash-and-grab gangs bold enough to operate in broad daylight.

He shakes his head, still catching his breath.

"Just one. We'll catch up when we leave here."

[ooc: sorry about taking so long with this. I suck.]

"Hard day at work?" asks a fellow Briton near the door.

Danny's come to recognize that voice instantly, and he turns and searches out its source. And then when he sees him his face is all YAY JAMES BOND. But he dials it back. He's getting good at dialing it back.

"Not more'n usual, really," he says with a modest shrug.

"They've gotten bolder recently."

It's an odd state of affairs when people feel safe enough to start committing minor offenses again, but there you go.

"Any reason why?"

Bond is going to ignore that look from Danny. Doing that's easier than it has been, considering.
