As a general rule, being chased down by determined police officers tends to be a deterrent to would-be thieves. Unfortunately, the ones in Sandford are either very stubborn or very thick, which is why Nicholas Angel is in the middle of his third foot chase of the week as he sprints through the door. There's a slightly undignified stumble as the ( Read more... )

He doesn't recognize the uniform but clearly two men in authority, Will just freezes with his drink at his mouth and stares.

As he catches his breath, he loosens his collar and looks around. Noticing the startled man at the bar, he gives him a nod and a non-threatening little wave.

"Hullo."

In Nick's experience, people who are uncomfortable with authority figures usually have a good reason for it. He merely gives the man a neutral nod of greeting.

Danny reminds Will of some of the men in Nottingham and Danny seems to exude men at armsness, so he salutes them with his drink,

"Fair eve, sirs, 'ope Milliways finds ye well."

The accent makes him do a headtilt.

"Um...yyyyes. I think we're well." He checks with Nicholas.

He nods, the scowl on his face fading into a sort of general, non-specific frown.

"Evening."

"Me name's Will Scarlett o'Nottingham, sirs. Who were ye chasin'?"

Good to get these things down since they sound English which isn't terribly reassuring.

Nottingham? Wait, what? He doesn't ask this aloud, though.

"Sgt. Danny Butterman, Sandford Police Service." Ooh, that felt good to say. "Just some kid who nicked a pack of biscuits from the grocery store. Third one this week."

Well. That explains it.

"Inspector Nicholas Angel. Nice to meet you."

He won't be relaxing here, they may be from a later point in history but still lawmen,

"Pleasure to meet ye both, sirs, may I buy ye a drink?"

"Eh, well, we're on duty, but thanks anyways. Though I could do with a glass of water -- chasing after a shoplifter is one thing, but keeping up with this bloke-" (jerks a thumb at Nicholas) "-is another."

"Hey, you're doing a lot better than you used to. I could use a glass of water too, actually."

Will taps on Bar to get the two lawmen some water and also orders a bowl of chips, and pushes it towards them,

"Aye, sirs, guess ye must be doin' a good job o'keepin' yer town safe."

"Hey, thanks!"

After taking a gulp of water, he helps himself to a deep fried slice of potato, crispy and perfectly salted.

He shrugs modestly at Will's statement. "We do what we can."

He sips his water, finally relaxing somewhat.

"Thank you. That's very kind of you."

"Aye, sirs, always glad to get to know new folks 'ere tis all."

Its good someone's relaxing, Will's still a bit unsure, Nick just exudes respectable lawman so he makes Will nervous.
