Hiro was down in the bar again. He was, sadly, rather preoccupied with a certain brand of woe here. But that didn't mean he wasn't trying to figure out a way to do something about it

It was the music that had caught her attention as she had been writing. Sarah smiles politely as she takes a step closer to try and get a better view of what Hiro's working on.

"That's origami, isn't it?"

[supaahiro]

Twenty-eight cranes. Twenty nine cranes. Thirty cranes! Where's the Count when you need him?

Hiro blinks at Sarah a moment and then nods. "Yes. Origami," he confirms. "Making cranes."

[his_sarah_jane]

That's a lot of cranes.

Sarah nods, watching him fold a moment more before asking, "Is there a reason why?"

[supaahiro]

Forty eigth cranes.

"For a girl," he admits after a minute, his smile sad and wry.

[stilljustandrew]

*Andrew came out here a few minutes ago looking for Ray, and overheard the music. And, of course, followed it.*

*Now he's standing near the mass of paper and blinking down at it.*

Hiro?

[supaahiro]

"Hallo, Andrew," Hiro says, glancing up briefly. Thirty-one cranes. "How are you?" Thirty two cranes.

[stilljustandrew]

I'm doing okay. *And he is, really. He just has to remember that.*

How about ...

*He crouches, to prevent an incipient neck-ache from looking down.*

...what're you doing?

[supaahiro]

Forty nine cranes. Crane number 50 mocks you.

"Making cranes."

Could it be? Is there an actual Japanese person in amongst all the foreigners here at Milliways?

Osaka approaches slowly, not quite believing her eyes. "Um... excuse me..." she says softly. Thanks to the magic of the Bar, Hiro will hear her speaking her native Kansai dialect.

Is Hiro into shoujo anime? If so, he might just recognize her.

[supaahiro]

Hiro watches everything. Hiro's player doesn't. Woe! Thirty-three cranes.

Besides, Hiro can't recognize EVERYBODY. But he does smile at the girl and replies, "Yes, miss?"

Then she sees the paper. "Oh, you're making cranes! Are you making a wish for somebody?"

[supaahiro]

Fifty one cranes around him, Hiro nods. "I am."

[gonna_live]

"Hey, Hiro." Kaylee's got her hands in her pockets. "You got a hell of a setup, here."

[supaahiro]

Thirty-four cranes. It's nice, and the wind is calm, so crane thirty-five doesn't blow away when it's put with the rest.

"I got big job to do," he says, looking up at Kaylee. "Not like Serenity, but still big."

[gonna_live]

"Yeah?" Kaylee tilts her head, looking at the cranes and then back at Hiro. "I guess you're lookin' prepared for it, whatever it is." Beat. "What is it?"

[supaahiro]

"It's cranes. For a wish." He tilts his head, and then adds with a heavy sigh, "For Charlie."

[iambetadraconis]

Not even to go pee? Well Hiro, that's why catheters were invented.

"What are you doing?" says the slightly-French-sounding English accent.

[supaahiro]

Fifty two cranes mock Rastaban. Hiro can pee in the pushes if he NEEDS TO. He's a guy, after all. It's not weird and awkward like it is for the ladies.

"Making cranes," he says and does not look up.

[iambetadraconis]

But in the dark, all leaves look alike.

Well as long as Hiro doesn't have to explain any interesting rashes to anyone...

He bends over to see the birds [they kinda look like birds] scattered about Hiro.

"I see. What for? And do you have enough?"

[supaahiro]

"Seventy-one," he says, even as another takes shape in his hands. Seventy-two. Seventy-three. "I have to have a thousand. For a wish for someone."
