Hiro was down in the bar again. He was, sadly, rather preoccupied with a certain brand of woe here. But that didn't mean he wasn't trying to figure out a way to do something about it

*Andrew came out here a few minutes ago looking for Ray, and overheard the music. And, of course, followed it.*

*Now he's standing near the mass of paper and blinking down at it.*

Hiro?

[supaahiro]

"Hallo, Andrew," Hiro says, glancing up briefly. Thirty-one cranes. "How are you?" Thirty two cranes.

[stilljustandrew]

I'm doing okay. *And he is, really. He just has to remember that.*

How about ...

*He crouches, to prevent an incipient neck-ache from looking down.*

...what're you doing?

[supaahiro]

Forty nine cranes. Crane number 50 mocks you.

"Making cranes."

[stilljustandrew]

Making a lot of cranes, evidently....

A thousand of them?

[supaahiro]

Sixty-five, sixty-six, sixty-seven cranes.

"Yeah," Hiro sighs, and wriggles his fingers as he puts the latest one down. "Will take a while."

I'd offer to help, but I kind of suck at origami.

*Okay, crouching is getting too hard on the knees. Andrew sits on the grass, stretching out his legs a little.*

Is it for ... are you trying to accomplish a miracle?

[supaahiro]

"Too late for miracles," he says. Eighty four. "I just want to see her smile again." Eighty five. "That's almost a miracle."

[stilljustandrew]

Her?

[supaahiro]

One hunred and four, five, six, seven.

"Charlie."

[stilljustandrew]

*A long pause.*

I can listen if you want to talk about it? Or I could talk about something else, or I could go away.

[supaahiro]

One-twenty-eight, one-twenty-nine, one-thirty!

"Not much to talk about," he says quietly. "I just want to make her smile."
