[Pre-Milliways: So many worlds.]The door does not open, precisely. It is closer to say that where the door was becomes a shimmering wall of light. From the light steps a figure, shadowed against the glare for a moment until the door becomes just a door once again ( Read more... )

Ray, who has been putzing around with numbers more than anything else, glances up at the newcomer.

"Oh, hello," he says, standing away from his table. "First time here?"

It's been a while since he's greeted anybody new. Might as well dust the rust off.

Urza looks curiously at the man in light of such a nonchalant greeting.

"Yes, I should think so," he says with quiet bemusement. "Please, this may sound like a strange question, but what world is this?"

"We're sort of outside most of the known worlds at the moment," Ray says with a smile. "Temporally speaking, anyway. This is Milliways- it's a tavern of sorts at the end of pretty much all the possible worlds and universes. My name's Ray Stantz. I'm guessing you were expecting to end up somewhere else?"

"I had no particular destination in mind," Urza replies casually. "I am one who moves between worlds, and I had a yearning to travel somewhere new. This place certainly seems to qualify."

The man in the gray suit raises an eyebrow. "Most people," he says to nobody in particular, "use the door, by its choice even if not their own."

"I believe that I can safely say that I am not like most people," Urza says simply. "What is this place?"

"This is Milliways, the Restaurant (and bar) at the End of the Universe. Also the lounge and hostel at the end of the universe, but it started with the restaurant. Or possibly the bar." He stops himself digressing before he can sound any more like Strong Bad.

"I'm not like most people either, but when I open portals to this place, they usually work with the door rather than overruling it. Then again, that may be a function of the door bringing me here the first time. Would I be correct in guessing that's what happened to you as well?"

Urza shakes his head, then considers and gives a small shrug.

"Perhaps. I had no set destination in mind, merely reached out to an unknown place and travelled there."

But then, this is Milliways. There is nothing new in Milliways; everything's been seen or done or heard about at least five times before.

Lir, the silver vixen says.

I know, is the reply, and Hale turns to look at the newcomer.

Who cleary has seen better days...

Urza has been stared at before, so he takes little notice of the man and his animal except insofar as he takes in the presence of all those in the room.

Hale has been stared at though, many times. Not for the fox but for his eyes.

But then, perhaps Urza has seen eyes as yellow as a beast's before?

Magic, the fox comments. He seems to be made of it.

Urza has seen a great manner of man and beast, and none shock him any longer. Nor does the undercurrent of mindspeech that he can sense between the two.

It would be rude to pry, so he does not. Merely cocks his head at them and gives a curt nod.

Well, fear's a bit out of the question given some of the company the Bar tends to keep, but... blimey.

If there's one thing Jimmy hasn't been short on since having discovered the path to Milliways, it's dramatic entrances.

What's more the bloke feels huge. Like -- massive. Sort of. Mean, he's all human-sized (although Jimmy knows that humanity's questionable given the circumstances), but he seems bigger. It's that extra One-Quarter's Sense thing Paddy taught him. It's a boxing thing. So, yeah -- big. And tired. And perhaps cranky?

But he's heading over to the Bar herself, so Jimmy steels himself up for a small, "Hullo." After all, his Dad always said: 'Even an old bulldog appreciates a snack.' And, well, Jimmy's not about to become a snack, you understand, but the statement could still apply.

This is a reaction he's more used to. Urza nods to the young man.

"Greetings," he says simply.

Oh, yeah, definitely one of those Bigger blokes. Jimmy decides he doesn't ever want to be in a ring with this man. Ever. That's reasonable, innit?

"Bit new?" The question comes off an octave higher than it needed. Jimmy clears his throat a bit and sips from his water.

"Rather, yes," he answers with a trace of amusement in his voice. "What is this place, if I may ask?"

Ronnie Soak looks over at Urza as he enters. "Welcome to Milliways, traveller. Nice entrance."

Urza nods, sensing the power from this one.

"My thanks. Is this your domain?"

Ronnie shakes his head. "It is... its own domain. Many from my world come here... but it's just the bar the the end of all universes."

"All universes?" he asks, perking up a bit. "So one could concievably reach any world at all from this place?"
