All Souls [Monday Evening]

Bars were not really Chuck's natural habitat. At all. They were loud, often busy, and he had a comparatively low tolerance for alcohol. He was known to claim it was an adverse reaction to neon. Either way, the result was a bit like letting a lone giraffe wander central New York; gawky and somewhat lost ( Read more... )

Bars, however, were Vala's natural habitat. Especially when she had nothing to do but wait and was still dealing with being time displaced by thirty years.

Chuck stopped turning his glass, and looked sideways along the bar towards the newcomer.

Attractive newcomer.

He raised that glass toward her with a hopeful smile, figured it was friendly.

Vala glanced at the young man toasting her and stifled a groan. Instead, she toasted him back with her glass and a smile, and hoped he noticed the engagement ring.

Fortunately, Chuck wasn't the sort to actually hit on women in bars. Or, anywhere to be quite honest.

She probably didn't have to worry much about him.

"Who knew a tiny little place like this could have it's own bar?" he remarked.

Bella sat, her back to the bar, her eyes on the entrance. The table was in a nice quiet corner of the bar and thankfully, her fire whiskey was hitting the spot. She used her cocktail sword to stir her drink up and looked around. She had to come clean to Buffy.

Buffy walked into the bar and spotted Bella in the corner. She ordered a drink from the bartender, and made her way over, intending on saying hello to her new friend.

"Hi, Bella."

Bella looked up from her drink and smiled. "Still talking to me?" Guilt showed on her face at how she had treated Buffy the night before.

Buffy half-frowned and nodded. "I came to some decisions last night." She lit a cigarette and sat down. "I think I might have overreacted, and taken things a little too seriously."

House wandered into the bar with his cane and limp, and sat down to be grumpy into a tumbler of scotch.

If anyone disturbed him, well, they're in for a treat.

If Chuck was sensible, he would've left the grumpy man alone.

He isn't always sensible, though. "One of those days?" he asked.

Well, it always seemed to work as an opener on TV.

"One of those months," House said. "You're awfully cheerful."

Chuck shrugged, poking at his drink. "I usually prefer me that way," he said. "Less maintenance involved."

Dean hadn't been in the bar in awhile, but he figured he needed something to cleanse his alcohol-palate from the, er, adventure with Meg that weekend.

He ordered a PBR and offered Chuck a wave. "Dunno if I know you."

Chuck looked at him a moment, and offered a tenative wave in return. "Uh, don't think so," he said. "Hi."

Dean took a swig of his beer. "Dean Winchester. Deputy and teacher. You?"

"Chuck Bartowski," Chuck told him, grinning now. Another fellow faculty member. "Teacher... and, just teacher."

Lina had been in more than her fair share of bars, and unabashedly flopped down on a bar stool next to Chuck; thankfully, she wasn't in her armor tonight. "You don't go to bars often, do you?" she asked with a smirk.

Chuck jerked his head around to look at her. Jumpy when caught distracted? Definitely.

He gave a short nervous laugh. "I'm having an off day," he joked. "Normally, you know, I would be out there... dancing and drinking and--"

"Yeah, no, not really."

A laugh. "Thought so," she said with a nod, grinning at him as she leaned over the counter a bit, "Sticking out like a sore thumb, you are."

Chuck grimaced. Normally, Ellie would probably dress him before he went out for these things. This was perhaps proof he'd been living with his sister too long.

"I find it a look that works for me, sometimes," he said, tacking a smile on the end there. "Always a good opener for people."
