Chuck jerked his head around to look at her. Jumpy when caught distracted? Definitely.

He gave a short nervous laugh. "I'm having an off day," he joked. "Normally, you know, I would be out there... dancing and drinking and--"

"Yeah, no, not really."

A laugh. "Thought so," she said with a nod, grinning at him as she leaned over the counter a bit, "Sticking out like a sore thumb, you are."

Chuck grimaced. Normally, Ellie would probably dress him before he went out for these things. This was perhaps proof he'd been living with his sister too long.

"I find it a look that works for me, sometimes," he said, tacking a smile on the end there. "Always a good opener for people."

Lina looked down at her own clothes, the mixture of yellow, white, and magenta that was paired with her fiery red hair and eyes. "Could say the same thing about me too, I suppose," she murmured with a shrug before looking back up at him, "Besides, don't take it personal. Just giving you a rough time." She grinned a bit.

Chuck gave another little laugh. "Don't worry. Not the sort to take extreme offense."

"Chuck Bartowski," he told her, gesturing illustratively toward himself.

"Only a couple of months or so," Lina admitted, running a hand through her hair, "Can't find a way back home, so..."

"Oh." Chuck was still in vehement denial of the weird goings on. That was unlikely to last now he lived with a wizard, but until then... "You can't just hop a ferry back to New Orleans and go from there?"

"Nope," Lina replied, "See, I was fighting a demon back home and he tossed me through a space-time rip. I literally crashed here." She frowned. "Hurt too," she muttered.

... "People have a strange preoccupation with demons in this town."

Yeah. Denial. Such a pretty thing.

"Trust me," she said, "They exist. You're lucky you don't meet them on a regular basis like I tended to back home."
