Yahoo executives seem to be trying to point the finger at the shows themselves, as if it's the fault of the content that they didn't do well. Now I wasn't an especially big fan of S6, but it's simply not Community's or Dan Harmon's fault that Yahoo didn't know how to handle a potential goldmine that basically fell into their laps. They really didn't put much into promoting their original content or making non-fans aware of what they were all about as a streaming service or that they even were a streaming service. To say nothing of their craptacular player.

Did you guys see this bit about Alison? It was announced this past Tuesday that she was joining the cast, the same day principle photography began. That was fast! I'm not sure she's even done filming her scenes for the Dr. Thorne adaptation yet.... Sounds like an interesting project and definitely not a comedy. She seems willing to branch out, although she does seem to lean towards indy projects and that doesn't always work out, given how many movies she's appeared in that are in some level of release hell. Oh well, good to see she's staying busy in a variety of projects.

Ummm, I doubt this movie is an indie. Not with that cast it's not ( ... )

I wasn't really suggesting that this movie was an indy (although I don't know), just that a lot of her films through the years have been and there almost always seems to be some sort of hangup getting them into distribution. I mean when are we going to be able to see No Stranger Than Love?

Sleeping with other People has only been released across 30 cinemas nationwide here in Australia. The folks at Madman Productions (the production company behind the movie) were good enough to respond to my tweet with a list of those cinemas (with the closest one being an hour away which is nuts as there are two large chains and three independent cinemas within a 10 minute radius of my house) but they are hardly going to draw big numbers.

Alan Sepinwall at Hitfix did a short piece on Yahoo's failed foray into original programming. He points out some of the things you did. Seems everyone BUT Yahoo execs saw this coming.....

Here's the link. It's a short vid. The Community portion comes a little ways in.

Yahoo are in trouble across their business model. Yahoo Screen provides a window into their issues. They have failed to evolve with the tech industry and are now desperately scrambling to catch up. They've assumed that original and/or exclusive programming would be the catalyst for Yahoo Screen while overlooking the fact that even for the likes of Netflix outside a few shows that original/exclusive content isn't about drawing huge numbers but supplementing the growing cost of external content.

As I mentioned in a previous thread. This loss has nothing to do with Community or their other original/exclusive content offerings and everything to do with their business model and execution. There seems to be a complete lack of accountability within Yahoo at present with no one willing to at least publicly acknowledge that the situation could in fact be far worse than reported in terms of the decision making processes within the company.

You could not be more correct about this. Yahoo has had fundamental failures across their business domain for years now and nobody there seems to want to either admit it or take responsibility.

Their business model is outdated and they have failed to keep up with the changing times. Throw in the complete lack of execution on their part when it came to Yahoo Screen and it's a perfect storm of ineptitude and lack of accountability.....

So I guess Joel was on something called Triple J....(radio show? Podcast?) and made comments to the effect of that there may be a couple Community episodes down the line, unconnected to a season and stated that he believes a movie will happen. Not certain on the validity here....

He actually said the same thing on this interview: http://www.9jumpin.com.au/show/mornings/videos/4597254613001/

In this one, he kind of elaborated a bit. He said that realistically, another "season" couldn't be more than four or five episodes because the cast is so busy. He specifically cited Alison as someone who's on the road to a big movie career and who is also on a hit television show (I assume he means Bojack Horseman), who'd have a hard time carving out time in her schedule for a 13 episode season, let alone a full 22 episode season ( ... )

That was a fun interview. Morning talk show people the world over seem to love him. Yeah....pretty much what was attributed to him saying on Triple J. He does point out that what he's talking about is all conjecture and yet with his insider knowledge with both Sony and Dan, it's realistic to think that this may have been talked about by the powers that be.

I mean we've talked about this before. A shortened season or a handful of longer episodes, ala Sherlock, leading into a movie. I still think that while remaining positive is good, it's gonna be a while before DH feels like getting back into the creative headspace he needs to, in order to do any more Community properly.

Triple J is a nationally distributed radio station. Tend to be geared toward millennials and below.
