Poly Hell

This might surprise you: the poly discussion group I went to at lunatravels and Rrrob's place last Wednesday was the first such event I've ever been to. There are plenty of poly discussion groups here in the Bay Area, but I suppose I've always been too busy being poly (and a Burner and an engineer and...) to attend them.

I enjoyed it. I was afraid it was ( Read more... )

Yay, you're home!

Does that means I'll see you at craft night on Friday? It's ON! :)

This is just to say, I read "juggling nisaa's pets" as "juggling nisaa's parts" at first, and it didn't seem out of place.

When I was new to poly, I liked discussion spaces for it, as I tried to figure things out, but now, it just doesn't have the same zing to it. When I'm around a bunch of poly people, I'm mostly discussing baking or dogs or sex.

Also, I find that there are a lot of poly people (just like there are a lot of dog people, or teachers, or whatever other subgroup I'm in) that I just don't like very much, and I prefer to surround myself with folks I like and who like me, regardless of their relationship style, orientation, etc. -- which leaves me less time for looking for topic-specific groups.

Yeah, I understand that last point. And part of the motivation of going to such groups are to meet other people who have that in common. This is attractive in Sydney, where I don't know enough polyfolk, but not really attractive here in the Bay Area, where I already know plenty of polyfolk. There are a few individuals who I wish I'd see more often, which would make, say, the East Bay poly group attractive, but I'm just going to keep encouraging those individuals to come to the events that I already go to. =)
