[Hates to admit it, but-] Some of it sounded possible. About our being here having a bad effect back home. [Pause. Analogy tiems] You know, if you break a link on a chain, the rest of it falls off. If more than one of them break, it goes to pieces.

You can fix it, maybe, and put them back in, but it's not...not exactly the same as it was before it broke. It can look the same, and feel the same, and for a while it'll still work well.

But...somewhere down the line that chain will break again, and you won't be able to fix it.

Uh, he is why I wanted to talk to the people at the clinic. [Small pause. She's trying to work out if Raine responded because Nami sounded sick or because Raine works at the clinic. Wasn't she a schoolteacher?]
