FRASER/RAYK vs. and FRASER/RAYVTonight, I was reading a F/V/K story for the very first time - the Rays together just doesn't turn me on - and I made this stupid revelation that I probably, subconsciously had already made but it really startled me nonetheless ( Read more... )

Oh you brave soul, reading that lol. :P But omg, yes to all this. Ray K and Fraser just make SENSE. I will tell anyone who listens. Two men, both having failed with the women they were truly in love with, both lonely and outcasts, both men who seem different on the surface but feel the same way about justice and doing crazy ass things to save someone you care about (*cough*insertmotorcycleintowindow*cough*) It's like the first two seasons were set up for Ray K to come around and complete Fraser, and I happen to like Ray V and Stella together. They actually make sense, two people who are slick dressers and who must both really like to fall in love easily and fast. It makes poetical sense, and Ray V doesn't seem like the type who would care one way or the other about having kids. Hell, judging from his family, he might be in full favor of having no kids or just a single kid. One of my favorite fics of all time is With Six You Get Eggroll because I can totally see Fraser and Ray K adopting a thousand kids or maybe not having kids at all ( ... )

he's totally talking about him and Vecchio, telling Ray K that he doesn't need to partner with Vecchio because they'll always be BFFs

OMFG I love this, haha. I didn't look at it this way until now and I can't believe I didn't! Because RayK never addresses the fact that Fraser might stay in Canada, because at least Fraser is still his in that respect and that's a hurdle he can overcome. But not being Ray Vecchio is the one he struggles with the most. OH GOD.

So Ray says, "I'm not sure if you - " and then what? WHAT? I love our show.

I tend to agree, but then I *am* a F/K shipper and not a big F/V one (I can actually buy F/K/V a lot better than F/V, at least set post-series; AU or pre-Ray K is a whole 'nother deal). Stepping back from it, I've wondered if it was a flaw in the characterization of Ray K that he didn't have a whole lot of other ties or relationships, and that you could argue that it came at the same time that Fraser became more larger-than-life and the show got campier. Like, Kowalski does have the marginal, messed-up thing with Stella and we barely see his parents, but Vecchio's family was a real presence in seasons 1 and 2. I'd like to think that Kowalski's a strong enough guy that he'd pull himself together even if he and Fraser didn't get together, even if that's the more romantic outcome.

That's the thing with RayK though. He didn't have ties - with the exception of Stella - which was partly why he took the job as Vecchio. In doing so he finds Fraser, but I guess he also finds a home at the 2-7. He seems relaxed and happy to be there, a lot of the time, and finally starts afresh [well, eventually ( ... )
