FRASER/RAYK vs. and FRASER/RAYVTonight, I was reading a F/V/K story for the very first time - the Rays together just doesn't turn me on - and I made this stupid revelation that I probably, subconsciously had already made but it really startled me nonetheless ( Read more... )

Oh you brave soul, reading that lol. :P But omg, yes to all this. Ray K and Fraser just make SENSE. I will tell anyone who listens. Two men, both having failed with the women they were truly in love with, both lonely and outcasts, both men who seem different on the surface but feel the same way about justice and doing crazy ass things to save someone you care about (*cough*insertmotorcycleintowindow*cough*) It's like the first two seasons were set up for Ray K to come around and complete Fraser, and I happen to like Ray V and Stella together. They actually make sense, two people who are slick dressers and who must both really like to fall in love easily and fast. It makes poetical sense, and Ray V doesn't seem like the type who would care one way or the other about having kids. Hell, judging from his family, he might be in full favor of having no kids or just a single kid. One of my favorite fics of all time is With Six You Get Eggroll because I can totally see Fraser and Ray K adopting a thousand kids or maybe not having kids at all but totally hanging out and helping children of whatever village they live in or around. I'm pretty sure you've heard about or read the alternate ending that was planned for Due South, and let me tell you, that was the wrongest thing to ever wrong. Fraser in Canada alone with the Rays hanging out, wtf. I never got Ray/Ray either, because I don't think one episode in which they're on screen together can sell me on a pairing.

And to get back to what you were saying, I love the campfire scene where Ray K tells Fraser that he'll go back and partner with Vecchio. I remember first watching the episode and thinking that that was what was going to happen, because when Fraser told Ray about his father and Frobisher being partners even across a great distance and without seeing each other for months, they still knew they were partners, I thought that he was comforting Ray K. Actually, he's totally talking about him and Vecchio, telling Ray K that he doesn't need to partner with Vecchio because they'll always be BFFs. Truthfully, it makes more sense that's he's talking about Vecchio. Fraser and Ray K are so flip floppy with their partnership that they still question it. In the episode before the finale Ray K asks if they're still partners and Fraser responds with the infinitely slashy, "If you'll have me." If they're still questioning their relationship, how can Fraser comfort Ray K and say that they'll be partners forever. Nope, he can say that about him and Vecchio, because they have a long-lasting friendship that was never really ever in question and doesn't need to be because it's a simple relationship, friendship. But with Fraser and Ray K it's complicated because there's something much deeper and more at stake. Fraser can outright tell Ray K that he believes in him and that they're friends, but then he can shuffle his feet and respond, "If you'll have me," not to mention their getting back together awkward/happiness on the Good Ship Mountie after Mountie on the Bounty. So Fraser never intended to go back to Chicago, and was addressing the partnership with Vecchio at the fire, both of them having a classic case of miscommunication.

Good lord I've meta'd, lol, and I know you won't mind which is awesome. They are so my shared OTP (they're tied with Kirk/Spock, but you gotta give them props for sharing first place because of how much fucking evidence and history there is for K/S.)

OMFG I love this, haha. I didn't look at it this way until now and I can't believe I didn't! Because RayK never addresses the fact that Fraser might stay in Canada, because at least Fraser is still his in that respect and that's a hurdle he can overcome. But not being Ray Vecchio is the one he struggles with the most. OH GOD.

So Ray says, "I'm not sure if you - " and then what? WHAT? I love our show.
