also, while it might not be end of the world, it definitely fits in with the theme: Right At Your Door. I haven't actually watched it (it's in my netflix queue), but it got really awesome reviews and was a big selection from last year's Sundance. I can't wait to see it :)
Actually I hated Mars Attacks :) ahhh well. But I will definitely check out the 28 days movies...been meaning to for awhile. Right At Your Door sounds awesome too....and of course, I'm very excited for The Happening as well...mwahaha.
What about the traditional ones? You know, the original Planet of the Apes series, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, the old War of the Worlds, Dr. Strangelove... (Also in old movies, Day the Earth Stood Still isn't quite end-of-world, but it does threaten the end of the world)
The don't have the same special effects, of course. =)
I love the traditional ones :) Planet of the Apes I've seen but not its successors. And I have been meaning to see Dr. Strangelove for years and years...that one is definitely on the list.
I quite like Thunderdome, but there's definitely a thick coating of cheese about it. The Road Warrior is pretty great, though. I've actually never seen Mad Max.
And really, isn't it high time we finally got beyond Thunderdome?

Also, Soylent Green gives a different take on the End of the World theme.

Red Dawn is another good 80's Cold War EOTW sorta movie.

I heard somewhere that Thunderdome was based on Riddley Walker, quite possibly the oddest sci-fi book I've ever read. I do enjoy it enormously though.
