Jul 09, 2012 14:40

So, the poll showed 28th July as a reasonably popular date for a group trip to Puzzlewood, one of the Merlin filming locations. colacube and lou_angel have volunteered to drive people to Puzzlewood from Gloucester station. Yay ( Read more... )

Just be aware that it was very wet and muddy there last week and I fell twice in the mud so bring wellies and be prepared to get very dirty. Hopefully everything will be fine. FYI, the filming last week took place right inside the forest - when the path splits to the right and up, the filming was to the left and down around the corner in a flatter area.

IDK, the opportunity to drool over the cast... :P (Though it does make me wonder: what if they're trying to film a non-rainy-day scene but it keeps raining at them?)

M and I should be on the train that gets into Gloucester at 10.06. That or we'll be panicking because we've missed the train...

They don't film on the weekends and it's highly likely they are somewhere else at present. I just thought you'd like to know where they filmed so you can go "oh, I was there" next time Merlin is on. Some places are really distinctive and some aren't at Puzzlewood. I'm a bit of a locations geek so I always want to know. :D

[Sorry for the loooong comment!]
It can get rather slippy and muddy in Puzzlewood and we have had an extraordinary amount of rain here recently so I'm not surprised it was a bit treacherous! It sometimes doesn't seem to get that wet once you are in the woods because of tree coverage which is good news if the weather is less than hospitable on the 28th.

I haven't seen them filming up there on weekends before but last year they were there right in the middle of the school holidays and the place was swarming with kids and families - they must be so incredibly patient. If I see the location signs go up again I will let you all know!

By the way, the cafe has been revamped in the last year or so and does serve paninis/sandwiches etc at reasonable prices. I can't recall off the top of my head how big a selection they have. However there is also a large picnic area if you wanted to bring your own (or I'll do a detour past Tescos on the way back from the station if people don't want to bring their stuff so far on the train).

Selection of paninis is not large - mostly ham, cheese plus the usual drinks. I think there are desserts but I don't remember.

I have to discuss the timings with takadainmate but hopefully it should be all good!

Okay have discussed it with takadainmate and because it takes her quite awhile to get into London she's not willing to go quite so early. We were considering taking the 10:15 train to arrive at 12:07 and then take a taxi, but when I called I found out the taxis are £40. Is there anyway anyone could swing back to pick us up or is it just too out of the way? burkesl17 is also interested in going if we could go a bit later.

Well, M and I haven't bought our train tickets yet and we are the other people coming by train with the others coming by car. We could switch it so we're all getting to Gloucester at 12.07, and then colacube and lou_angel can have extra time in bed too. Thoughts?

If everyone else is okay with it that would be great! But if it's going to be a problem or put people out then don't worry about it!

My brain seems convinced I'm doing something July 28th but calendar thus far says so, so I'd be up for this.

I can book my train to arrive in Gloucester... pretty much whenever everyone else is.

It'll take you four hours to get there, either via Birmingham or via London. If you want to crash at ours overnight on Friday and go up with us, be our guest: then you'll only have to cross the whole of London on lolympics day 1...

My train wouldn't be too bad on the Saturday morning - wouldn't even have to get the first one down to KX or anything! (Even going for the getting-to-Gloucester at ~10am option)
