Breakfast:

rice crispies with milk
bowlful of plain yoghurt with a couple of teaspoons of crab apple jam
To my great surprise, he got over his initial meltdown that the yoghurt wasn't in little pots with a lid but came from a big pot (also with a lid, but clearly not the right sort of lid). I don't know whether that was because he was persuaded by my ( Read more... )

We do 'family style' dinners with bowls of, eg, cherry tomatoes/buttered bread/lentil salad [am crunchy granola type]/pasta and the kids are able to dictate what is put on their plates. It helps a lot. Thought would put it out there. However S (who it is in aid of, really), has issues I suspect might even have a name or something.

Also, you can totally make yogurt! Would LB be more likely to eat something he had had a part in making? I don't make yogurt myself but am told it is less hassle than bread making etc.

We sometimes have bowlfuls of things on the table they can pick from. The trouble is that LB often wants none of them! But we could do more of that, thanks.

My mum used to make yoghurt. But she had an Aga. Rationally, I know you don't need an Aga to make yoghurt, but I'm not sure I can be bothered. Especially as LB is perfectly happy to eat Yeo Valley (which is what he got this morning). LB is keen on cooking and we do lots together, but it makes no difference to his unwillingness to eat the end results, alas.

'pols for being helpy. It's hard though isn't it. I have major major issues with food and am so terrified of passing them on I probably go the other way. It's difficult to stay in my box.

The parent-friends I know who make their own use easy-yo(sp), but yeah, who can be bothered. THING IS, my bread maker has been gathering dust for far too long and everyone's all OH WELL MAKE YOGURT - my own children would say "ew no it doesn't come in plastic" (I paraphrase but it's about the size of it), but I felt I should mention it... not sure why tbh ;) It sounds to me like LB is finding his own balance, but oh god how can any parent not worry about it.

's fine! I think of myself as someone who doesn't have issues with food, but doing this log and foregrounding all the emotions I think I usually suppress is making me realise that I have, at least, a not-perfectly-straightforward attitude to food myself. So that's useful to know.

Glad it's of interest! Both mine really like seeds, PB raw only and LB raw or toasted. And yes, pouring, drawing, glueing and so on with seeds is great way to get them to eat them. Do not, however, do as I did, and let them play with flaxseeds. The results the next morning were, shall we say, spectacular.

Heh. I do in fact have a big bag of flaxseed/linseeds, which may well come in handy again during late pregnancy ( ... )

I've never much liked yogurt as a thing in itself, but I must say I really like it alongside mild veggie curry.
