So I can’t believe the year is over! This is the last class and perhaps the last official post. It’s been a great year-difficult, but great-and I’m happy it’s over, but in a few months I will be nostalgic. I must say though I really enjoyed this class. Last week I expressed my sentiments towards “The Waste Land” and even shared something I wrote on it in high school. This poem is a masterpiece in my opinion and I continue to learn from it each time I sit down and tackle it. I find the bit in Latin before the poem begins to be quite interesting. Well Monday’s class was interesting-I mean tutorial anyways. We watched Robert Hughes “Shock of the new” I believe it was called. It was a film about modernism and the mechanical age. It showcased emerging ideas such as futurism and dealt with art and technology. It was fascinating and quite informative as well ( Read more... )

I have the hump. I am depressed right now because it is a terrible month with much to do in all areas of life, particularly school. I was happy to learn of the new word “hump”, which means depression because it gives me a new way to refer to it. This week I found the poets we looked at to be very different. Well, here we are back from reading week and ready to get to work again. Right? I enjoy the works by Robert Browning, and most particularly “My Last Duchess”, which I studied in high school. Let me begin by saying that I love the titles Wordsworth chooses for his poems. I’m just amused that these titles often consist of one or two words and then underneath there is a greater description. For example, “Lines: Composed a Few Miles above Tintern Abbey…” or “The Tables Turned: An Evening Scene on the Same Subject”. “Lines” is a great poem ( Read more... )
