We usually go on hiatus in July so folks can focus on Pennsic. Right now we're working up music to sing at a member's church at the end of June.

Something to think about

I got 30 tick bites at Lilies 2 years ago. I didn't show any signs of any illness, but I went and got meds, just in case.

In whining about it after, I was told that if I upped my vitamin B intake, it would help. So I thought I'd try it.

I got 2 bites the next year. That's it.

I'm keeping up the Vitamin B.

Oh, let me clarify. This was not my doctor telling me about the vitamin. It was someone else, not in the medical profession. But I decided I'd give it a shot.

I've camped at Sapphire every year - and have yet to get a tick. But the secret of the new site is 'don't go into the fort'. *That* is where most of the little buggers are and I noticed that most of the folks who wrote on the Merry Rose that they'd been bitten were also folks I knew had spent time inside the fort walls. Personally, unless someone I know is specifically getting an award, I skip court - because it's in there. And while I've walked the merchant area inside the wall, I don't go any deeper into the fort.

And for the record, I have not ever used anyt insect repellent. I just don't go into the tree/lush grass areas.

Ahh, that must be it. I've camped on the arid, treeless part of the site and come home tick-free. I'm glad to hear that there hasn't been some tick explosion through the entire site in the past few years.

According to the American Lyme Disease Foundation most of Virginia is in the rare category for being exposed to Lymes Disease. (http://www.aldf.com/RiskMap/virginia/virginia.shtml... )

Actually, I have a very good friend who got a tick bite from Sapphire and it turned into lyme disease. 3 years later, she's still not 100% recovered...

I was told yesterday that when they went to clean up the site last Saturday a lot of bug killing stuff was put down to try and get that problem under control. So hopefully it won't be so tick-y this year!
