I'm really enjoying this story. Out of the despair and loneliness there's a spark of hope for each of them now. It's beautifully written and I love the nods to the movie scenes. More please.

OH Mel. That these two DESPERATELY needy men both felt this reawakening of warmth, and life together,

***and he had the feeling that with Ennis also a comforting warmth was disappearing, something he had not felt for many, many years.****

***And like a wonderful flower burgeoning curiously and full of power from the bleak ground after a tentatively desert rain, Ennis felt all of a sudden life kiss him, releasing him from his cold rigor.***

...is just beautiful. I am completely hooked on this. I love them both and want so much for them. Now they can each say they have a friend, and I love it. I can't wait for more.

Thank you.

As I had written this chapter I was relieved myself that they finally made a step forward. I hardly couldn't bear the thought that both men were so lonely...

But I think that's how they felt most of the time in the canon story... and this always makes so sad...

Mel: You described so well "the loneliness both felt deep inside of them. Loneliness and the desire to share the own pain." and their "vulnerability". I this is pure poetry: "And like a wonderful flower burgeoning curiously and full of power from the bleak ground after a tentatively desert rain, Ennis felt all of a sudden life kiss him, releasing him from his cold rigor." Thank you so much. Martha
