Jerking in the shower?

Mar 12, 2009 11:58

As most of you would know by now, I am in the middle of editing my latest novel, Hunter's Dawn for publication. In a scene towards the end of the book, Jack takes a shower and my editor has suggested that I have an opportunity to up the sensuality of this scene if I wanted to. This made me cringe, because in this year alone, I have read at least a ( Read more... )

I think if you're not interested in writing it, the scene will probably come out feeling like you weren't interested in writing it...

Also, there are definitely other ways to add sensuality, including just having the showering character fantasize about his partner, if that works better for you as a writer.

Actually, something like that probably would work better for me, as well as describing how soap/water feels on the skin, etc.--I'd be riffing from another author there, though. ;)

I will see what I can come up with when I go back to add bits that the editor has suggested.

Oops! Sorry to subject you to a shower-jerk scene in my latest opus. *is embarrassed now*

LOL! I wasn't taking any personal shots at anyone (no pun intended). But I do see these scenes a lot and they are getting tired for me. Sensuality, when well done, I love, but if it's just in there because--hey he's in the shower and now is a good time to touch things--not so much?

Incidentally, your shower scene didn't bother me in the way that some others have. :)

So it just bothered you on general principles? Good to know. ;)

Honestly, I'm so new to this genre, I have no idea what's become a cliche.

If I recall correctly, yours was the scene that delved into the whole moment as a sensual experience, the feel of soap and water, etc...I actually thought that was original and different, and not just a "Well, my dangly thing is out and I can reach it so..." scenario.

I voted in the poll, but just to be clear...you're talking about a, um, solo jerking session, right? And not Casey and Jack jerking each other off? B/c yeah, I've read a lot of scenes in a lot of books where one character is jerking off in the shower while thinking about so and so, and I feel kind of meh about those.

But shower sex? That I like. ;)

Oh trust me, if there was an opportunity for shower smexin' I'd be right there! LOL!

No, this is about the solo jerk off session type of scene.

Nice to hear from you!

Yeah, it's great to be out and about the blogosphere again. I've missed chatting with you all! I have a ton of stuff to catch up on (I need to know what's going on with everyone these days!) and I'm hoping to be around much more now.

Hope everything is well with you. :)

The husband once went through a fanfic I wrote and counted the number of bathtub scenes. Three. *hides* I am that writer that puts in way too many sex in the shower scenes.

I've tried not to do it so much anymore though. *blush* It is rather overdone. Okay, way too overdone. Done right, though, it can be rather tasty. *eg*

If it feels pastede on, don't do it. Why pour maple syrup on a birthday cake?
