Agreed 100%. Know why? 'Cause I'm a fencer. Half of our population is those people who are overweight, completely unathletic, and have no real desire to succeed, but simply want to play (dangerously and badly) with swords, talk about how much they like ninjas/pirates, and to look cool for five seconds after they tell someone that they "fence".
I agree with you. Not all of them, but a majority of them. Also add wiccan in there as well. Most of the people I know who are wiccan/pagan dont really practice it they just like to get the adverse reaction from people by wearing the "garb" or telling people they are wiccan/pagan.
Then again, I think any religion does it to a point. Even christians and jews.

Well there's a distinction between people who need attention (pretty much everyone at some point and level) and attention whores. These people have their own sets of interesting issues.
Agree with you on emo, goths, and eating disorders. Curious what you mean by Pagans. Not sure about Vegans. The only Furry I've met IRL I never would have guessed was a furry if I hadn't investigated his LJ user info after noticing that his icon was a profile of a fox, so I'll disagree with you on that count.
A lot of the pagans I've met in various circles seemed to be in it for the drama caused when they rubbed people the wrong way. Some would say the most outlandish shit about other people (that might be considered slanderous if it weren't supernatural in nature) and dare anyone to challenge their "beliefs". In the Army is was worse. Quite a decent number of those I met seemed to be in it for the drama caused when they would complain that their religion wasn't being catered to, enough.
I am not sure I have ever actually met a furry face-to-face (if I have, they were probably sincere, since it didn't become an issue in meat-space). But I have seen plenty on-line who seem to be on some sort of fursecution kick, even going so far as to put themselves into a definite position to be ridiculed then getting all butt-hurt and indignant when it happened. As I said, the relatively quiet ones are probably sincere.
