If DreamWorks is trying to make things right with the movie "Rise of the Guardians," both in terms of relating to their fans and overall story and artistic quality--I'll consider seeing it ( ... )

(I personally would like to see a RoxannexWayne pairing myself - blasphemous that may be)

What if we did a weekly fanfic bookclub? Maybe each week, one of us could take a random fic that we never read before and then (maybe with permission from the author) post the basic synopsis of it, the pos./neg.'s we found from it and then our overall viewpoint on the story itself, if we liked it, loved it or just didn't agree with it.

This could develop discussion on said piece maybe get someone from FF who doesn't know we exist to check us out and, maybe take in whatever advice that we could dish out.

*shrugs* just a thought. But once school lets out I'll have more freedom to devote to projects and story reads. Just another 2 weeks!

Love that idea! I need more Megamind fics in my life right now!

I was thinking about doing something like that for "Pale Blue Shadows." That was one amazingly powerful story.

If this were to be a regular discussion of fanfics, though, I would really put the emphasis on being positive. I wouldn't discuss a fanfic to rip it apart or anything.

It is a good suggestion! Especially about getting permission from the author.

I fully intend to go see it...I actually have TWO DAYS IN A ROW! off next week *gasp* so I'm definitely going to make an effort to drag the hubby to go see it then.

I actually hadn't realized it was out until it'd been out a WEEK already... I blame working overnights right now, and working retail in general. This time of year is crazy-making for us. XD

Went to see ROTG today. Sadly the theater was mostly empty, but maybe that has something to do with it being the first showing of the day?

While not spectacularly mind blowing in my opinion it's descent enough to go see and coming from a person who tends to be "bah humbug" when it comes to movies that says something.

I was surprised both at the amount of depth given to Jack Frost and how menacing the villain is. Of course a hero is only as compelling as their adversary. Pitch kind of reminds me of Hades from the Disney animated movie: "Hercules."

You do have to suspend your rational thinking, but there is a simple explanation for a lot of the fantastical feats and phenomenon: MAGIC!

I wasn't intending to see it in 3D, but did and agree with Filthy. The 3D is not obnoxiously thrust in your face and makes the snow and snow flakes look elegant.

Go see it!

Don't you worry -- I'm going to see it with my mother on Friday! :) I couldn't get to it last weekend with the holiday and everything, but I'm definitely seeing it this week! My support for DreamWorks knows NO bounds! I will admit I'm not too pleased with the recent revelation of the elves though... They hit me as DW trying to copy Despicable Me's Minions, but I'm willing to look past that especially if you're telling me this film is good -- which I know it will be! (My husband, however, will be harder to convince. He took one look at the elves, saw what I did, got pissed, and lost interest. I think the only thing that might change his mind is if I see it myself, then I can convince him to look past them too. XP) I'm looking forward to seeing it on Friday! Go DreamWorks! ;D

I was really worried the elves would be annoying like the Minions, but they don't show up all that much (to me). I think they were more of a marketing ploy to get the people who liked Dispicible Me's minions to come see it. LOL bait 'n switch.

Without giving anything away, the movie is more focused around Easter, and a big deal of it is focused on the Tooth Fairy's issues. Even though it's being pushed as a Christmas movie, it's not really-- it's just snowy more than anything.

I kind of figured the elves were a marketing ploy myself, especially given they didn't even appear in any of the original previews; they really only started hogging the spotlight closer to the film's release date. Makes you wonder if they were a last-minute addition to, as you pointed out, try to nab Despicable Me's crowd since the Minions were so freaking popular and appear everywhere now... XD

Despite the elves though, I have to admit, everything I see about it and everything you tell me makes me want to see it even more! I can't wait until Friday! Maybe I can even convince my mom to see it in 3D! ^_^

I saw it in 3D opening night and loved it. It doesn't shove the 3D in your face; like Megamind, it really just compliments the movie, with all the snow falling and particle effects and nnnghghg

Does it help that one of the kids makes a comment about fairy tale creatures and there is some vague line about Big foot, aliens, and Michigan...? I really need to just find the line and post it, lol. I need to hear it again. I really think it was a subtle nod to the Megamind fans, but I'm also a delusional crazy chick lol.
