Roxanne took a sip of her coffee; she was in the Emerald city. She had spent four years in Shiz after arriving at the age of sixteen, and it had been two years since she had graduated. She was using many of her Vinkus soldiers in the search for Megamind; he had been referred to as a warlock. Back when she knew him, he didn’t know anything about magic … and he certainly wasn’t wicked.
Apparently he had become a thief, a trespasser, a vandal, and an enemy of the Wizard. He was talented at making a spectacle of himself, as well as escaping whatever soldiers or guards were thrown his way. Roxanne had researched his criminal activities and found that they tended to center around the same focal point as they did in school … Animal rights.
So he hadn’t changed that much, just become more dramatic at it. He freed animals in zoos and research facilities, causing chaos and mayhem wherever he went. She smiled, remembering when she had helped him free a small Lion cub … when times were simpler, when he wasn’t yet a fugitive.
She looked up from her coffee and noticed something … two green eyes, more green than she had ever seen on anyone else. Was it him? It couldn’t be … these eyes belonged to an elderly munchkin man with a taste for very tall hair. Yet Megamind had been good at machinations, or maybe as some said … spells, it could be some form of trickery. An illusion that didn’t hide the eyes?
She stood up, the munchkin man was leaving and she found herself following him almost without a choice in the matter. He walked a long way, winding down streets and making unnecessary turns as though he was afraid people might follow him. This made her suspicion rise, he must be important or he wouldn’t be so cautious.
He would have lost most people, but growing up in the Vinkus and learning to hunt as she did, she knew how to track prey with an unyielding accuracy. He led her all the way to a district of abandoned warehouses and walked up to a door where he reached in his pocket and took out a key. He unlocked the door and opened it. She stopped, should she let him see her? What if it wasn’t him? Then he was inside before she was done considering the question.
She walked up to the building and looked in the window; it was so dirty she couldn’t see in. She lifted up her sleeve and wiped off some of the dirt before looking back through. What she saw was amazing, the munchkin man transformed into Megamind in flash of blue light. Her mouth dropped open and she stumbled back … it was him.
It wasn’t just him, though. He was being surrounded by about a dozen flying blue objects she couldn’t quite make out through the dirty window. He picked something up from a table and threw it, causing the blue things to go chase after whatever it was. Were these some kind of flying blue dogs? Then he left the room and out of her sight.
She reached out for the window; it wasn’t locked and opened easily, she climbed inside. “Ollo?” she heard him ask, she must have made some noise on the way in. She bit her bottom lip and looked around for a place to hide, but before she could, Megamind walked into the room. His eyes widened and he gasped at the site of her, “How did you find my hideout?”
“I…”
He was running around waving his hands and yelling something about useless creations of science. Then one of the strange tik-tok creatures flew into the room, it had a blue lighted half spherical top and the bottom was made of metal, in the form of tendrils and fangs, it also had one red eyestalk. If possible, her eyes widened even further. “We have an intruder” Megamind informed the creature, “You’re supposed to watch out for this sort of thing”
The creature made a sound like a ‘bowg’ before passing Roxanne and closing window behind her. She gasped and took a step away from it, tripping over some kind of wire and landing on the ground.
Megamind growled and pointed toward Roxanne, “Take care of her” The last thing she saw was a spray can in front of her face.
She opened her eyes to the site of a bright light. Where was she? How did she get here?
“I see you’re awake” it was Megamind, she sighed remembering what happened.
Then she realized that her hands were tied behind her back and she was sitting in a rather uncomfortable chair, “uh … what’s going on?”
“That’s what I was going to ask you”
“Me? Why?” The lights started flickering before they came back on
“How did you find me?” he looked around, slightly frustrated
“I followed you” she sat up straight, looking around the room. It was rather dark but seemed to have a lot of machinations and flashing lights.
“Why? I mean … I was disguised … wasn’t I?” he looked down to check the small glowing clock he was wearing on his wrist, as though making sure it was still working.
“I … just knew it was you”
He looked up at her suspiciously, “How?”
She looked over at the strange creature she had seen before, there were now three of them in the room, “What are those things?”
He looked over at the one she was looking at, “I made them”
“More machinations? You were always good at those”
He smiled, “Yes, I hand make each one, they can be made for different purposes. I make some for security, others for…” then he narrowed his eyes, looking back over at her, “Oh no,” he smirked, “You won’t be getting my secrets that easily”
Then the lights started flickering again, only this time they didn’t come back on. She heard him let out an aggravated sigh before she saw fire spark from somewhere and fly over to land on the wick of a candle.
She raised a brow, “So the rumors are true? You’ve become a warlock”
“Oh yes, wicked as I am … the worst of them all.” Then he pulled his hand back and thrust it forward, a ball of flame thrown from his fingertips and racing towards her. She felt its heat against her cheek, but not close enough to hurt her, or scorch her hair or clothing. Her eyes followed the flame, it landed on the wick of a candle on the wall behind her. He stood up, beginning to walk toward her, “That’s why I’m confused, why would you want to follow me here? You should fear me and my evil ways”
She tilted her head, looking back over to him, “I’m not afraid of you, Megamind … I never was and I never will be”
He raised a brow, “There are many horrible things I could do to you, princess. Horrible, horrible things”
Her smile grew, “I’ve researched your activities, Megamind. In all of your commotion, you’ve never hurt anyone … and I don’t think you really want to.”
He sighed, “You won’t find me here again, just tell me where to take you”
“Where to take me?” her brows furrowed in confusion
“Once you wake back up”
“Oh…” so that was it, then? Two years searching and that was all she was going to see of him.
