This is something I just started writing, it's a cross between Wicked (the musical and the book) as well as Megamind. I combine the story as well as the characters, so some of the characters will seem a little bit of a cross between. I also made up some things to make it flow better, I hope you like it. This is my first ever fanfic so please be gentle. Characters introduced in this chapter: Megamind/Elphaba, Minion/Nanny, The Warden/Frex.
Chapter Two Chapter Three**********************************************************************
Madame Melanie had been so depressed since she had borne her son. The crown had so destroyed her father’s life, she had hoped for a girl because a girl could not claim the thrown. She had been so convinced that she was going to have a girl that the thought of choosing a boy’s name hadn’t even occurred to her.
Megamind is what they called him for last the seven months, a nick name chosen because of the obscene size of his cranium. Madam Melanie showed no sign of wanting to name him anything different, she didn’t seem to care. She wondered to herself why the child had to be born blue. Why couldn’t he have been a normal color, a human color? Instead his skin shined blue with the evidence of her own impurity, her own infidelity. Of course her husband didn’t suspect a thing, believing instead that the child’s color and shape was a curse for his own failures as a minister.
Her husband was gone so often, things became so lonely, that whenever a passing traveler came she found it hard to contain herself. She was lucky her husband believed Megamind his son, she was lucky he was no mathematician or biologist. She was lucky he was so trusting of her. Yet Madame Melanie was four months pregnant, and again she was unsure if this child belonged to her husband.
Minion looked at Madame Melanie, “You are frightened, aren’t you?”
“Me, whatever would I be frightened of?” she asked, but gave herself away by glancing at the large headed blue baby sitting on the floor by her feet.
Minion sighed; did Melanie really think that she could hide anything from him? “You are afraid that this new child will be blue, and wipe that look of your face, you know it’s true. I talked to someone in the Emerald city, Madame Melanie, look in my bag, will you?”
Melanie knew that as a Fish in a sphere, Minion would have a very hard time retrieving the item himself, so she reached into the black sack and found a jar, “What is it?”
“I bought it off of a gypsy, she said she could see you and described you and your child in perfect clarity. She also spoke of you having two children and how important they would be. She told me these pills in this jar, by taking one every week, you will ensure that this child will not be blue and will not have a large head. I’m sure without that head your next delivery would be easier on you.” Minion did care a lot about Madame Melanie and wished to see her happy.
By the time Megamind was four, he had already figured out the mechanics of certain tik-tok machines. He had created a tin body for Minion, so that he wouldn’t have to be assisted in assisting others, something Megamind had silently considered counterproductive.
Although Megamind had still not spoken, he had shown remarkable intelligence. Minion believed the reason for lack of speech was his lack of social contact and coerced Madame Melanie to allow him to attend one of the nearby Munchkin schools. Despite the fact that Melanie didn’t wish anyone to even know he existed, due to his horrifying disfigurements.
However, the school or ‘shool’, as Megamind had begun to call it showed some other negative effects other than proving true the rumors of his obscenity. Although he started speaking in response to what he learned and seemed to respond to the teacher who seemed to try her best to be tolerant of his uniqueness, the other children were frightened of him. He was constantly trying to tinker with things, creating malevolent inventions of tik-tok mechanics that seemed bent on destruction and mayhem. Eventually he was expelled for his misbehaviors, he did not respond well to how the other children saw him.
It hurt him that they would think him wicked simply because of his appearance; he concluded that munchkins were very small-minded and could potentially halt any progress toward any equality of the nations of Oz. That he would be thinking of the equality of nations at such a young age was quite disturbing to Madame Melanie.
His father, John Warden, trekked low in Quadling country with his family. He spoke to the Quadling people, hoping to convert them to faith before their inevitable demise by the hands of the newly appointed Wizard of OZ.
After a year of being here, Madame Melanie had died in a tragic accident. This required that Minion begin to care for the crippled younger son of John Warden, for Minion’s family was deeply connected and always loyal to Madame Melanie’s family line. Although Minion detested the murky waters of Quadling country, his purpose in life was to be needed by and to care for the members of Melanie’s family.
John Warden brought Megamind with him to his meetings with the people, speaking of how the boy was his own punishment and how that humbled him, hoping that his imperfection of deserving such a terrible punishment would make them understand him and to connect with him. He was hoping that the connection forged would lead to their conversion for spiritual well-being.
He did not understand that showing off his six year old son as a tragic outcome to his own failures would cause some form of mental disorder in the boy. Megamind began to blame himself for his father’s unhappiness; he found that he despised his own appearance even more than he already did.
This was only encouraged when John Warden wished to apologize to the family of the Quadling man who may or may not be the father of his younger son. A man, who, it turned out, had been shared by Megamind’s parents in an intimate way. For this, Warden asked for forgiveness; and for this, it was not given. In response he gestured to his older son and said, “Is this not punishment enough?”
Megamind knew that his father was hurting, for he knew he desired forgiveness. Yet he also knew he meant the words he said, he was punishment … and far too much.
