I traced back the linage of my (sometimes fickle) love affair with imaginary characters on LJ about two years ago. I've had a number of love affairs with TV boyfriends, but at the moment, I am remian happily embroiled in this mad, passionate ménage à trois with McKay and Sheppard. While I might window shop a little, it's still only them for me.

I want to draw hearts around this answer. :-)

I love Rodney McKay with a passion that should probably have its very own DSM classification. I think that I relate to Rodney because he's very real in his weaknesses. He complains, he's afraid, he's hungry, he's nervous - all the things that I do, that I feel. Then he rises up and overcomes and struggles to do the right thing even though he screws up and makes an ass of himself. It's been said before but it bears saying again - he's the every-man. If Rodney, who is the weak link on the team, who is imperfect and selfish and whiny can overcome and succeed and be a hero, there is hope for all of us. Even if we don't have his big brain ( ... )

It's true!! I used to have a button that said, "Anything I ever let go of had claw marks all over it." Well, I'll tell ya - my claws are in Atlantis and I'm not planning to let go anytime soon.

I don't care if it IS a 'dying' fandom. As I've said before - my ZPM hasn't reached maximum entropy just yet. There are still people here, and it still makes me happy.

And hey, specifically because you asked about filk, I thought that you might appreciate the fact that between me, hsifyppah and u_must_b_joking, there are enough Stargate specific filk songs to put together a CD of JUST Stargate filk. In a perfect world (where I actually have the wherewithal to put together my kitchen-studio album named "Dreams of Pegasus") my Stargate songlist would be made of the following:

By hsifyppah

Rodney, oh Rodney (which David Hewlett has actually read)
Planet With a Forest

by Me

Don't Ask, Don't Tell
John's Song
Atlantis Shines
Rodney's Favourite Things (which David Hewlett actually rapped - there is actually video evidence on ( ... )

That's the best description I've heard yet!

And thank you for all the links! Now I have something to look forward to when I get home from work today (if I don't manage to sneak some in while no one is listening--packs headphones in bag) :-)

Dying fandom, my ass! Or ... at least the famous Hewlett ass. ::sighs in admiration::

I don't see why there shouldn't be more options than ninja or pirate. I'd rather choose astronaut, too.

Anyway, you'll see my claw marks in 'lantis as well, just to keep it tethered to this galaxy.
