Kurt & Blaine singslikeagirl July 4 2011, 11:08:26 UTC
Kurt was standing off to the side of the refreshment table nursing a cap of cold lemonade. The last few songs had been fast paced, loads of people up on the dancefloor and getting into the vibe of the celebration, but Kurt and Blaine hadn't actually danced yet. They had mingled with some of their friends (there were even Warblers that had showed up when they got wind of a potential party on the cards), but now Kurt was just swallowing a mouthful of his drink when he caught sight of Blaine looking at him out the corner of his eye.

He took the cup from his lips, swallowing and turned to him, finding that gorgeous smile with the faintly cheeky shine in his boyfriend's hazel eyes. Then Blaine held out his hand and Kurt's eyes dropped to it. "You want to dance?" he asked, feeling a warm, fuzzy glow pique inside that Blaine chose the slow song for their first dance, but then the penny dropped. "You requested this?" he asked with a squeak.

Blaine just kept smiling at Kurt and gently took his drink from his hand and abandoned it on a nearby table so he could take Kurt's hand. "Of course I want to dance with the love of my life," he replied and then briefly kissed the back of Kurt's fingers when they made it to the edge of the dancefloor. "I might have had to bribe the lead singer with sexual favours, but small prices to pay, right?" he joked.

Kurt looked over at the band. "Which one? Because I'm going to kill them," he stated plainly, but glanced back at Blaine with a laugh before his eyes took in the scene around them. He spotted his dad and Carole sitting on the opposite side of the room watching and he flashed them a brief, slightly nervous but hopeful grin before he was looking adoringly back at his boyfriend, their hands linked together as the slipped onto the dancefloor amongst the throng of dancers.

"Blaine, it's a dance. Are you sure you're okay with this? In public? People around..." He wet his lips but Blaine seemed intent on his purpose. "We don't have to do this you know. I know we danced at prom, but this is different. It's not just the school, it's half of Lima. But just for the record, your butt looks glorious in those pants. I knew it would," he added proudly. They were his suggestion and Blaine bought them without hesitation.

"More than sure," Blaine replied and wrapped his arm around Kurt's waist, pulling him close in the embrace. Their faces were just inches apart, and even though they were still holding hands, Blaine released his hold and put his other hand in the middle of Kurt's back. There were other couples slow dancing in embraces similar to this all around them, and granted they seemed to be male-female hooks ups, Blaine was tired of holding back with Kurt. He was proud of what they had, and he wasn't going to be afraid to show it. At prom, they had settled on the more traditional and polite dance hold, but now he wanted the real slow dance deal ( ... )

Mike, but open to anyone justwants2dance July 4 2011, 11:32:17 UTC
At hearing the schmoopy love song, Mike reflexively scrunched his nose up and made a soft ugh sound to himself. This was going to suck. It felt like everyone was hooked up lately, and he had been in a weird, faintly rebellious mood since everything that happened in New York... whilst still trying to avoid Sam so he didn't need to face up to what was going on in his head and his heart. He was usually so easy-going, and he wasn't content having this confusion spinning around inside him lately. He just wanted to have funBut how was he supposed to have fun with everyone making gooey eyes at each other on the dancefloor. He watched as Blaine coaxed Kurt onto the dancefloor, both smiling adoringly at each other and then Mike's eyes accidently went to Sam standing talking to a bunch of the guys from the football team from school. Their gaze met briefly before Mike broke it, turning away pointedly to take a large mouthful of his Coke. Someone should ban all slow songs ever and they should all play Pin the Tail on the Donkey instead. Or ( ... )

Holly came up beside Mike and slapped a hand on his shoulder as she grinned. "I'd ask you to dance, but that could be viewed as inappropriate. Why are you not out there tearing the dancefloor up, Mike Chang? Way I remember it, your moves were smooth."

"Everyone sucks," was Mike's ineloquent response as he continued to faintly scowl at the couples all wrapped up and dancing to the slow song.

It might seemed like he was still bitter over the break-up with Tina, but it had nothing to do with that. In fact, he hadn't been bothered by it at all and had it was mutual. It was another member of ND driving him up the wall and making him down on anything romantic and cute. It was the first time he had ever experienced feelings like this, so he didn't know how to deal with them.

"Can I just say ouch!? That hurts, kiddo. Right here," she replied as she tapped her chest where her heart was. "I do not suck. At least not in the way you're implying," Holly added, not being able to resist.

But she held her hands up. "I'm sorry, I know. Bad, bad substitute teacher. Too many days spent around teenage boys. So what's the real problem. And remember, this is me you're talking to."

Finn, and open for anyone finninator July 4 2011, 13:32:24 UTC
Finn really didn't know exactly what the formula for being fabulous and single was, but on Kurt's suggestion, he was pretty sure he was managing to at least emulate it a little. He wore the jeans and button-up the Kurt suggested and he even shaved, even if he usually forgot to do that in the summer. Forget, or couldn't be bothered. It was debateable. It's not like he was dating right now and had anyone hounding him about his appearance. Okay, that was a lie. Kurt hounded him about his appearance at least three or four times a day, but as Finn's brother, it was his job to be a pain in the ass. It was more annoying coming from a chick who was just trying to change you ( ... )

Speaking of boobs One Tina Cohen-Chang was skipping by, happy nomming on some cotton candy from one of the very few food vendors the town had this year. "HeydereFinn!" She greeted him just before a mouthful of the sugary treat dissolved on her tongue. "Whatcha doin' over here?"

Finn looked down at himself. Did he look like he was doing something? He wasn't supposed to look like that, was he? Was that part of this whole discovering himself Kurt had been encouraging him with? It sounded easy, like reading one of those recipes in the magazines his mom bought and thinking you could make that. But then when it came down to it, you really had no idea how to separate the clear bit of the egg from the yellow bit, and why would you want they tasted awesome together anyway?

"Hey, Tina. Uh, no much. Just, you know, watching everything going on. You here on your own?" he asked her.

"Not exactly - bunch of my relatives came to town for the fireworks and stuff, so they're here, plus my parents. Luckily I snuck away and got out of baby-sitting duty," She replied with a smug grin. Way too many times her older cousins Jenny and Michelle (Michy for short) would bail on family gatherings and as the next oldest kid she got stuck with watching all her younger relatives.

"How come you're off by yourself?" Tina asked, holding out her cotton candy as a friendly offering. She'd texted Artie awhile ago saying she was at the park and she promised to meet up with him when he got there. "Aren't any of the others here?"

Santana & Brittany iwannabedirty July 4 2011, 16:36:36 UTC
Other than prom, this was the first big event Santana had taken Brittany to as her date. Since kindergarten, they'd been going to the Fourth of July dance with their parents at the park, and this year was no different. Their parents were still sharing small talk at one of the picnic tables, completely oblivious to this new facet of their daughters' relationship. And for now, Santana wanted to keep it that way.

But when that slow, romantic song started playing, she couldn't resist. It was sappy as hell, but it was the perfect song for couples. And that's what they were - a couple. They should be proudly showing that off.

"Babe? Dance with me?" she asked, a small, somewhat nervous smile on her lips as she held out her hand.

Brittany loved the Fourth of July, and she especially loved the festivities they had every year at the park. She and Santana had been going every year since they were like, five. While things were definitely different this year between the two girls, the excitement was still the same. Maybe even better, because Brittany totally planned on making out with her girlfriend while the fireworks were going off.

Watching everyone dancing from her seat at the picnic tables, Brittany turned her gaze to Santana as a slow song came on. When her girlfriend held out her hand, she couldn't help the big smile that spread across her lips. Brittany simply nodded, taking Santana's hand as she stood up from her seat and let herself be led over to where the other couples were dancing.

"You sure about this?" Brittany asked seriously as she slid her arms around Santana's neck and they began to move slowly to the song.

Santana wasn't sure about this at all. She didn't know what the reaction was going to be, and it scared the hell out of her. But looking around, seeing Kurt and Blaine dancing and the Berry dads dancing calmed her down a little bit. This wasn't such a rarity or such a big deal.

"Yeah," she said softly, wrapping her arms around her girlfriend's waist. She looked into Brittany's eyes, really smiling now.

Brittany smiled, wrapping her arms tighter around girlfriend as she voiced her assurance that she was okay with this. She was so happy, it was insane. She couldn't imagine being happier. Unless like, she could live at Disney World in the Cinderella castle with Santana. But this was pretty close.

Not taking her eyes from the deep brown ones gazing into her own, Brittany leaned forward and rested her forehead against Santana's, still moving slowly to the music. "This is so amazing. I'm glad you're not scared anymore." She said quietly. "I don't like hiding how awesome my girlfriend is."

Rachel, open, tasteslikepnk July 4 2011, 17:55:35 UTC
Rachel sat at a table watching as couples pulled each other around dancing, her dads being one of them. She giggled, watching them come apart as the song ended and the sappy one started and dance their way towards their daughter. Hiram held out his hand in an offer to dance while Leroy went back to his original spot at the table. She took her father's hand and followed him to dance. She and her dad rocked back and forth as they hummed along to the song playing around them.

Rachel couldn't help but smile as Hiram led her in the dance, her dad having much more grace now than he did when Leroy tried to talk him into doing a bit of swing. Instead the other Berry man took Rachel out and the two managed to pull off some form of a foxtrot. However, now she was content to do no more than the rocking with a spin thrown in for good measure.
