Connor stepped onto the stage and headed towards center, looking at the group of students assembled in the house. The man smirked to himself before pointing at a set of scripts on the edge of the stage, his eyes sweeping the crowd. He noticed a blonde sitting just center and his smirk grew wider.

“Miss, if you please” he asked her, moving towards ( Read more... )

Her initial instinct had been to put down Roxie, the sweet blonde with a heart of gold that the audience rooted for. And while she could have pulled it off - audiences were far easier to deceive than people assumed - she wanted a role with a little more flash, a little more sex appeal. So she'd written down Velma Kelly, with promises to rouge her knees and snap her garters implied in every stroke of the pen, and sang her heart out to All That Jazz, sex and lust and jazz oozing from every word she trilled ( ... )

Connor looked up at the girl in front of him, attempting to place a name to her face, however all he could come up with was either Roxie or Velma. He feigned a smiled and moved the paper he was looking at to the side, taking a quick glance at the name as he did so. "Charlotte correct?" he asked, her All That Jazz performance clicking as he did so. "That's a pity," the man shook his head, slowly eyeing the girl. "I would have been here sooner, however my other school needed me more."

Connor straightened up in his chair, casting a casual glance at Charlotte's chest before looking her in the eyes. "What can I do for you, my dear?"

If it bothered her (which it didn't, for the record) that he was objectifying her, she didn't let it show. Instead, she just smiled that much more, leaning forward to rest her palms on the table.

"I'm curious as to what you're looking at for roles. I'm sure a one-minute monologue isn't nearly enough to tell you the chemistry between some of the, shall I say, veteran performers?"

Connor didn't drop his gaze from her eyes as she leaned forward. He would wait before he got hands on with his actors, or at least come up with a better way to keep them hushed up about his...techniques.

"Well" he began, tapping his chin in mock thought, "how you all interact with each other on and off the stage." He glanced at a girl a few rows in front of him, texting on her phone "she for instance, has a higher possibility for a part that doesn't take quite as much effort as say" he pointed at another girl "her, I believe her name has some kind of fruit involved, she would be perfect for a role that requires enough attention." Connor looked back at Charlotte with a smile "As for you, I'm debating between two roles for you, I'll just have to see how you fair in part of the cold reading before I make up my mind"

Jesse's eyes narrowed at the new theater director's high-handed manner; he certainly expected to come up against some big egos during his imminent career as a professional performer (and Jesse could admit on occasion that his ego was by no means negligible), but this man had the manner of a Broadway diva, and he was teaching high school drama. Jesse had allowed himself to arch a single, disdainful eyebrow during his new instructor's opening speech-it was all style and no substance, in Jesse's opinion. A little too much 'Razzle Dazzle ( ... )

Rachel had been wary about showing up to this audition. She hadn't wanted to abandon Glee club, but her dads had insisted that with the break in her dance classes and a little time off from her acting classes should she score an appropriate role, she'd have plenty of time to balance her Glee club responsibilities and that of the musical. And to top it off Charlotte had borderline forced her to, while Jesse, her (practically) idol, had basically told her he wanted her there. So she really didn't have much reason not to.

She had shown up, quietly making her way to the front only to let her voice ring out on On My Way from Violet. It was an earnest song, filled with the desire to make it big that reflected well on the character name she'd penned onto the audition sheet (Roxie Hart, Roxie Hart, Roxie Hart), but one with enough power behind it to showcase what she could really do ( ... )

Jesse had smiled approvingly when Rachel came downstage to sing her audition piece in a clear and lovely voice. He gave her a nod that somehow mimicked a courtly bow as she left the stage, which Jesse hoped Rachel was beginning to recognize as her natural environment. He even turned around in his seat to (stage)whisper "Well done" once she'd settled in a few seats behind him.

To say that she hadn't been hyperaware of Jesse's presence would be a boldfaced lie. Ever since he had acknowledged her, that little nod sending a thrilling shiver through her, she had been aware of where he was, what he was doing.

His whisper, innocent as it was, made her smile and blush a little, and she mouthed a silent "thank you" before engrossing herself in finding the next song on her iPod.

Mercedes raised a brow at the theater teacher, Conner she believed he'd said mid-rant, he seemed like a person who knew his stuff and often patted himself on the back for it. Whatever. The girl wouldn't let his slightly odd, showboat-ish attitude trip her up. Not when it was finally her time to shine. The posters announcing the auditions had literally stopped her in her tracks and made her ten minutes late to class. She normally wouldn't bat a lash at the theater group here at McKinley but this year that was quickly changing. Chicago was always a game changer. A show of amazing songs, dances, decietful storytelling and memorable characters. This prompted her to actually give a damn about this play, explaining her presence here at auditions and why she sat though Conner's moment of student degrading. Mercedes Jones was here to clench herself the role of Mama Morton and she wasn't leavin' until she got it ( ... )

For the first time during the audition process, Connor looked up at who was singing. She was perfect and had the chops. Only one other person had wanted to be Mama Morton and well, pitchy was the nicest word for their performance. Connor looked down at the audition sheet, searching for a name, noting that she was not Charlotte or Rachel who were in an atrium doing vocal excersises or St. James who had gone on before. Mercedes Jones. The name sounded familiar, granted, Jones was a common last name and the last name of his dentist..maybe they were related, Connor didn't care as he looked up at the girl once more.

"Well, Mercedes," he began "You blew me away." he smiled, a genuine one, not the ones that directors use to ease their auditioners nerves. "There's not much I can say to that"

Her proud smile melted into one of pure pleasure. Of course she knew she was great but hearing it said always did make her heart swell. Mercedes wished Kurt was here so they could do their signature hand shake. It was a bit of a downer when the boy hadn't been completely interested in trying out for the show but his support of her auditioning backed her confidence level. Pushing aside her moment of sadness at his absence, the african american teen snapped her fingers in a seven formation with a chuckle before running her hand through her hair. This Jones was goin' places.

"Thank you Conner," She nodded back to the future director. "Never really made someone lack words, it's sort of nice." Mercedes' hands rested on her hips. "Any idea when the cast list will be up? I'd rather not work myself up into a worry for an unknown amount of time."

Connor chuckled at this, circling the role Mercedes had tried out for and putting a star next to her name. The girl had more than enough attitude to go with the show, let alone Mama Morton, she was his only definite cast member for the time being. He placed Mercedes' paper on the top of what would be a brand new stack and looked back up at the girl.

"You're quite welcome" he smiled again, showing more of his teeth than he did before. "A little bit after the auditions are over. Don't worry"

Auditioning for the school musical was part of Tina's plan to try and get out of her shell of shyness. She could sing and dance well, but thus far in her musical life, she was often relegated to the back as a prop to complement the obnoxiously bright stars like Rachel Berry. With a bit of encouragement from Mercedes (whom Tina thought perfectly embodied Matron 'Mama' Morton), she opted to try out for the role of Roxie. Sure, with her ethnicity she didn't quite look the part, but hey, that's what wigs were for, right ( ... )

Connor smiled at Tina before glancing at her audition sheet. He wrote Liz next to her name and scribbled understudy next to Roxie. He placed her sheet onto a pile and looked at the one underneath hers.

"You're welcome" he gave the girl a warm smile, hoping to settle any extra nerves she may have had. "All we would need to work on is your speed, projection and diction and I think you would improve greatly." Connor told her, "I'm always around to help"

"Th-thank you," Tina stammered again, slightly surprised but mostly thankful that he hadn't been too critical of her. But they both knew she needed work. "I-I definitely want to try." She bowed her head and gave a quicky curtsy before she hurried off the stage to her seat.

Watching Jesse on stage talking to Mr Jawline and Charlotte, Oliver was doing a bit of subtle brooding because he was asked to sit out on this certain conversation with claims that each student/actor was going to be asked a few questions individually which he didn’t buy for shit because that didn’t explain why Avery was privy to whatever they were talking about and he wasn’t. The only reasoning that had any footing was written clearly on her chest which display proudly ( ... )

She had been engrossed in her music - specifically, the duet she had performed a few days' back with the curly-haired boy onstage - so she hadn't noticed anyone trying to get her attention until the sandy-haired boy started snapping at her. Her eyes narrowed, clearly irritated, and Rachel pulled one headphone out with a huff.

"What can I do for you?"

A grin found it’s way onto his features with ease, pulling at either corner of his mouth, inspired by the impatience lacing through her tone. Yeah, he was already forgetting all about the conversation being had on stage in favor for the one he was about to (apparently) force on this girl. Oliver straightened up before turning around to get a better view of the curt girl, inspecting her without the blood rushing to his head from tilting his head back. Yeah, he could easily work with this, no problem.

“Hey, what’s with the attitude-- did you already get rejected or something? Listen I’m sure you did your best but sometimes it’s not enough. Some people just don’t have what it takes, you know?” He said condescendingly in light octaves as he continued to watch her. “Tell you what, since I’m a shoe in and you seem like you might actually be really attractive without the scowl, I’ll talk to the director and see if we can’t get you a bit part in the background.”

Rachel Berry did not get rejected. As a matter of fact, she had gotten a very respectable thumbs up from the director (and more importantly, a "well done" from someone else) so she was hardly worried. And as it went, she didn't think her cousin, who apparently had decided to be a little less than professional with the director, would let her settle for a bit part.

"I don't think that will be necessary," Rachel replied primly, right leg crossing over her left as she brushed her hair over her shoulder. This boy was just like every other boy she had met at auditions: sure of himself, cocky, and not at all polite.
