the only light visible in his vicinity comes from the small flashlight he's brought from his house. he's barely a few feet into the lobby when he sees the body, and the sight alone makes him want to puke.]
...Jesus.

Scrunching his nose slightly, he steps up a little closer.]
It's the mayor.
[Slowly turning to investigate for other clues, Egon shakes his head.] This makes very little sense.

...I don't trust him. You know how this town handles dying. He'll be back.
[it's not a comforting thought. truth be told, it might be better that Doe remains dead, but they aren't going to pull any clues from a corpse. at least not now.
swiveling the flashlight away from the body, Ray narrows his eyes when the beam illuminates a slip of paper laying on the front desk. he grabs it and begins reading.
then his eyes widen and he shakes his head.]
I guess he died the way he lived: hating our guts. [he shakes his head derisively and hands the note over to Egon.]

I'm not so sure, Ray. From what I heard, when the first police chief died he stayed that way. I think it's different with the people who have some sort of official position here. When they're gone, they're gone for good.
Besides, if that weren't the case, what would suicide really accomplish?
[He carefully picks his way through the rubble back over to Ray to take the letter and read it for himself.]
It's interesting how they seem to want us to be happy here and then turn around and make it sound like we're pests to be exterminated.

[Balin stands over the body briefly to survey what happened, before looking up and noticing the note on the desk-seemingly the only thing to survive the damage done to all the other documents here. Picking up the note with one hand, he briefly reads through it before dropping it back on the desk, looking back up and around at the lobby.]
[Someone might want to warn him about the doors, because it looks like he's glancing around at them intently.]

[Kiritsugu would have been remiss in his investigations if he didn't know about the doors. Having found Balin was just a coincidence, as he was just on his way out, hiding in the shadows once he saw someone else coming in.]

Jus' like'a Dairy, huh?
[He glances back at the doors with a sour look on his face.]

Someone took the gun. Not too big a caliber, but in our current state, enough to get an edge.
We don't know if the government is still playing under the same rules. Can't afford to die right now.

A seething Minato, brought to the boiling point from witnessing the death of his "mother" and the rest of his droned teammates, enters the office, quite intent on gathering answers...only to find his would-be interrogatee dead. Tch. In frustration, he kicks some of the debris away, and tries to gather some of the scraps on the floor. But it's no use...the documents have been thoroughly torn. He can't piece together any of this shit.
And when he reads the note left by the mayor...he slams it back down, atypically disgusted.]

Why are there so many children acting alone? You should leave this to adults. Get to somewhere safe.
[This was a case of the pot calling the kettle black, as she had started her job as an Enforcer at fifteen years of age. However, she had several years of training as a mage and was mature for her age. Now, as an adult and an Enforcer, she felt obligated to protect the children left homeless in the wake of whatever had destroyed the town.]

And who are you?

Bazett Fraga McRemitz. What about you?
[The boy seems overconfident about his ability to handle himself in this ruined town; like all children his age, he seems unaware of the very real dangers lurking behind every corner. She has seen this all too many times, with Edelfelt being a prime example; she herself had experienced it when she was his age.]
Seeing how you're a child, you probably don't work here. If so, why are you in here, of all place? And why are you looking through papers instead of trying to find food or clothing?

Hey.

Ah, Minato. How long have you been here?

[Perhaps he shouldn't be relieved, as there's a slight dangerous edge to Minato's voice. It sounds like his usual "leader mode" tone, but with more grim determination.]

So, this is the new trend. Its a shame if you only basted the turkeys a bit longer I think the people may have enjoyed them a bit more.
