I was too tired yesterday to really explain why I'd had such a nasty customer service experience (along with my already frustrating day), so let me explain

Wow. That doesn't sound like bad customer service, that sounds like someone who may actually be psychotic. That is not your fault at all, and I don't think it's oversensitive to be upset when someone yells at you for no reason. It's like the equivalent of going to McDonalds and ordering a burger with Coke, no wait, make that diet Coke, and the clerk yelling, "GOD, YOU'RE SUCH AN IDIOT!" at you. Yikes.
But yay for the nice discount tire place and small friendly animals! I hope you have an infinitely better day today.
The tire nazi was definitely out of line and had no right to yell at you. Clearly he gets away with treating people like shit because they want his low prices. People like that are so damn irritating.
I'm so glad the other tire discounters helped make up for that experience. It kind of reminds me of my car break-in experience last month. I was sooooo rattled after discovering my Envoy had been broken into and no matter how hard I tried, I could not get my brain to function at its best. Unfamiliar town, 2 hour drive from home, smashed in window... all I wanted was to be home, thank-you very much, and not have to deal with finding someone willing to do a same day repair and then actually physically finding them. Thank God deangirl1 was able to lend me her brain so I could follow her to the glass repair place. And thank God the guy running the place was so good. Though his personality was far from sweet, in the sense that he was very matter-of-fact and business-like, before I even knew it he was dialing the police for me, telling them my story

Oh, goodness, that would be so horrible! I'm glad you had someone to lean on, and found a guy who could help you right away. That matter-of-fact attitude can be very reassuring in times of crisis--my dad has proved that to me. He's not emotionless by any means, but when something bad is going down, he can go grim and just take of business. I really appreciate that. I'm glad everything turned out okay for you!
It's amazing how a little thing can ruin or make a day, but it's so true. Just think about that guy's poor family, if he has one. If he has that little self-restraint with his customers and business, I hate to even imagine what he does to his family. Definitely don't go back. A cheap tire isn't worth it!

My kitten is awesome! :D He's so chubby, and getting bigger every day. I kinda want him to just stay tiny forever.
