Just heard about a new DC Comics direct to video movie yesterday sold exclusively at Target. Picked it up and thought I'd share my thoughts. Long story short: for a cheapo, quicky DTV it is NOT Brainiac Attacks. For my full review, read below the fold ( Read more... )

Trapped In Time

The ending was actually a homage to Planet of the Apes. Giancarlo Volpe and Mike Ryan have plans for a sequel but nothing is greenlit yet. All depends on sales for this "stealth" release. I'm not so sure about a sequel, Volpe left WBA awhile ago and works for a video game company now. This was mostly to help promote Target's JL toyline. But hey, if there's more that's fine with me.

I couldn't wrap my head around Karate Kid. For someone who learned every known martial art, none of these teachers taught him humility? And using slang like "hater"? I don't believe something like that would survive to the 31st century. At least I hope it doesn't.

I get it was a childrens' release but the constant repeating of names and what just happened turned me off. The movie was a B/B- to me. It didn't help I don't care for Superfriends at all. I grew up on B:TAS as a child.

How could sales be good if there is no promotion for it? Have you heard if this will get a wide general release outside of Target? Did they announce this movie beforehand and I somehow missed it? Because I was pretty shocked it existed.

People keep saying it's like Super Friends but that doesn't ring true to me. It has much more in common with the first season of Justice League. Super Friends wouldn't have a character say "They torture themselves by self-flagellating with radioactivity?" That line was SO awesome.

Karate Kid was lame but I think he was supposed to be. You think "hater" is bad? Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and TNG both had Bashir/Deanna Troi do the "Yes!" thing while pumping their fist which was totally a 90's thing. Even Data even did it in Generations.

Exactly. No, none that I've heard but they did give the 'waiting on sales figures' line. They only announced it on January 15, 6 days before the release date. I was privy to its existence since the 13th. They really kept it under a rock until the last minute, why I have no idea ( ... )

Are there plans for a wide release for it at other retailers? Because having it only be exclusive to Target (with limited time availability would be a travesty.

Unless they were being cute and simply meant it would be a Target exclusive ONLY for a limited time before a general release everywhere. Is that plausible?

Powerpuff Girls: I think Ebert's review has been pulled, but to be fair, he might have had a point. There's a scene in the film where a giant ball is rolling around smashing skyscrapers with the three girls laughing and playing around; I think it's a fair criticism that it was a bit close to the bone at the time (a lot of people have commented on the 9/11 imagery in Man of Steel too, and that came out 12 years after the event). That said, the film wasn't too bad - not exactly big screen material, but I picked up the DVD in a bargain bin and wasn't disappointed.

The Lego Movie: Alas, it's actually CGI doing a really good impression of stop motion.

Powerpuff Girls: I've never seen the movie but the 9/11 stuff wasn't the only crazy thing in Ebert's review. He went on to say that he would not want to meet one of the many adult fans of PPG. That either means one of two things: either he was implying that all of the adult fans are creeps (which is something that gets thrown at furries a lot) or that he would want to beat someone up if he found out they liked it. The second scenario isn't out of the realm of possibility since it's been hinted he and Gene Siskel have nearly come to blows many times. In fact, I'm not sure they haven't.

The Lego Movie: I couldn't even tell! That is REALLY cool!

Teen Titans Go! "Breakfast Cheese" - This episode didn't do much for me, but I find it sad that it felt like a twist ending in that it was happy and not a kill 'em all ending ( ... )

Arrow: Thanks for the info on Sin.

Hulk and the Agents of SMASH: Yeah, the Herald's power corrupting Jen didn't work at all.

Revolution: Agreed on all points.

Sleepy Hollow: Who is Greenwood?

Grimm: NBC is the worst. Between the misleading promos and bouncing around the show's time slot it's like they are TRYING to kill it off.

Community: Troy was just nitpicking the logic of it. I actually DO know the real story why it's called that but Troy has always been a very literal person. He takes after Abed that way.

Arrow: I love Sin on this show, though, I don't care if she's an "In Name Only" character.

Sleepy Hollow: Lyndie Greenwood/Jenny.

Grimm: Honestly, I think Grimm ads are NBC's weakspot because I don't mind the trailers for Revolution or even Dracula at all. UPN was the worst and Fox and WB/CW have done their share of messed ups. I agree about the erratic timeslot and the crops of new episodes/periods of repeats, though.

Community: Well that's a relief. Especially since there's really no point in asking a man who didn't get involved in the franchise until 25 years after it began.

Sleepy Hollow: Oh, good, they use her almost every episode anyways.

Grimm: You're right about NBC's Dracula and Revolution ads not being too bad (especially not Revolution's). I don't get why NBC seems to be purposely damaging Grimm.

Community: Yes, there was. Because it was funny.

The Powerpuff Girls "Dance Pantsed" - I liked the brocolini and the dance-off, but it wasn't the strongest PPG outing. I wonder where Powerpuff Girls falls on the Cartoon Network popularity scale? It was one of the firsts, and the merchandising was ridiculous, but I feel like Ed, Edd, N Eddy may've surpassed Powerpuff Girls in the late 90's as their network tentpole (that was a show they kept alive for a while). And then Ben 10 came along ( ... )

The Powerpuff Girls: There is no contest. Powerpuff put CN on the map. Ed, Edd, N Eddy didn't even have any merchandise although to be fair I can't imagine any kid wanting toys of those repulsive looking characters.

Dads: Fluke. My next two reviews will make that clear. And to be honest the episode was still pretty terrible because it was badly written and I still hated all of the characters. I just gave it three stars because I laughed a few times.

Parks And Recreation: I don't think that just because a LOT of women don't want to fix their problems that ALL women don't. That's all I'm saying. I am VERY proud of that Parks and Rec review so I'm glad you noticed that it was particularly good. I'm starting to get better at this reviewing stuff. My Simpsons Season 16 review will be epic.

Dracula: Hey, you're right. We DON'T know if Drac can control other vampires. If that's the case next season should be interesting (Assuming there is one).

How far along into Doctor Who are you now? I'll repost my reviews once you are caught up.

Actually, I remember seeing at least one piece of Ed, Edd and Eddy merch. It was one of those table-tennis rackets with a ball attached to it with elastic.

...of course, playing with it would involve repeatedly bashing the characters with a rubber ball, so you might still haev a point there.

The characters in that show (and the animation) were all butt-ugly and the screechy voices made the series unwatchable. I have no idea why it was so popular.
