It would be fair to call Greed a man of strong psychological constitution. Little things could set him off, odd things, and he was prone to mood swings from time to time, but he tended to swing back just as easily, prone to joie de vivre at his own ambitions.

It would be appropriate to call Greed a man of an extremely hardy physical constitution. ( Read more... )

With her phone now out of commission, there was no way for Naoto to connect to the community until she was able to return home and charge it again.

But she didn't need a cell phone to perform a proper investigation. A little luck and a lot of footwork... that's the majority of investigative work. It's not glamorous, but it's effective.

So the Detective Prince decided to act on her hunch and seek out the greedy Homunculus. Perhaps he might be able to clue her in and confirm whether the shapeshifting Homunculus really was stuck on the ship with them or not.

Approaching purposefully, but keeping a respectful distance (lest he should lash out), Naoto announced her presence in a polite manner. "Excuse me, but I'd like to have a word with you, if you don't mind."

Yamato-Takeru simply grunted, yellow eyes narrowing behind the darkened glass of his visor. While his mouth remained hidden from view, it should be pretty apparent that he was frowning.

Meanwhile, Naoto struggled beneath the Homunculus's bulk. She pushed against the floor, panting for air.

"Would you mind... please getting... off me...? Oomph!" Naoto collapsed to the deck once more. "You're... rather heavy..."

Sheer hubris kept Greed from feeling much of anything under the stare of those glowing yellow eyes other than a passing wonder over whether Dorchette could take this... thing... in a katana fight. Either way a summonable minion seemed like something desirable.

And then Noato's voice squeaked beneath him. He looked down again, blinking before getting up and thoughtlessly pulling her to stand by the collar of her shirt as he stood, then promptly letting go.

"...You're gonna give me him?"

Another indignant squeak as she was suddenly hoisted to her feet by the collar, like a kitten being picked up by the scruff. She staggered when her feet hit the ground, her hat falling askew over her eyes. Taking a moment to readjust her hat and tuck her Evoker away, she turned and stared up at the tall Homunculus.

"I'm afraid that's not possible," Naoto said with a slight frown. "Yamato-Takeru is my Persona. Essentially, he is me... He can't be separated from me."

Now that Greed was standing at his full height, he would notice that Naoto's Persona was only a few inches taller than herself. The similarities in their height might lend some credence to Naoto's words...

"So you're gonna give me you and it'll be a two-for-one deal?" Greed asked, leaning down closer to eye level towards Naoto with a grin that could have been taken as anything from lecherous to giddy.

"E-Eh...!?" She backed up a pace, raising her left arm up, as if to ward off a blow. She didn't exactly like the hungry look in Greed's eyes. It reminded her too much of the Big Bad Wolf.

"Of course not!" she said, face flushing. The silver ring on her left hand flashed in the light, and he held that hand higher for emphasis. "Besides, I already promised myself to someone else."

She knew that Greed's proposal had nothing to do with marriage or the like, but even so, it was a similar concept. At least in Naoto's mind...

"I don't mind!" Greed waved off, taking one stalking step forward, still bent down. That hand quickly cupped her shoulder, a perfectly gentlemanly hold, but a hold none the less. "I ain't the marrying type anyway, so, once you become theirs and they become yours, since you're mine, I'll be getting three for one!"

The flush deepened. Dammit, her entire investigation was being derailed because Greed was suddenly occupied with the latest shiny thing to catch his attention; which just happened to be Naoto! Somehow, she had to get things back on track...

"Th-That's not the point!" Naoto said, taking another step back, hoping to pull free of Greed's grip. "I showed you my special abilities... now I want you to show me yours! Fair is fair, isn't it?"

Yamato-Takeru, meanwhile, edged a bit closer to the Homunculus, his gloved hand tightening around the grip of his katana. He responded to Naoto's mental and emotional state, and since she was experiencing a high level of distress, Yamato-Takeru's posture would reflect that.

Feining ignorance to the approaching spirit, Greed moved his face closer to hers, cheek to cheek as if to get some sort of privacy from that pointedly ignored third party. "Now, now, now. You did that all on yer own, I never expressed interest in anything like that... If you wanna show me somethin' I got interest in, then we might be able to strike up a deal, but..."

Was Greed implying that Naoto had tried to seduce him somehow? That thought caused her face to grow even hotter. Having the tall Homunculus's face in such close proximity to her own didn't help matters much.

"Don't turn this around on me! You were the one being so uncooperative!"

She turned her face away from his. The upside was that he was talking to her, at least. The downside was that what he wanted to talk about had nothing whatsoever to do with her investigation. She was reminded uncomfortably of her first "date" with Kanji, back when she'd been immersed in the middle of an investigation involving a serial murderer.

"Well, what... what exactly are you interested in...?"

It couldn't hurt to ask, right? Although Naoto was certain she wouldn't like the answer...

"Iyaaaan." He did his best to make the noise feminine and light, but it mostly came off breathy and nasal as he finally stood straight and mock-turned away. "Such a bold question...!"

When he turned back around, he was at least a bit more serious, though still smirking with far more enjoyment than Naoto would have probably liked, and he still didn't give an answer that would allow things to quickly return to her investigation. "Sure you wanna offer me a carte blanche like that, Chief? You know what kinda guy I can be, and you did say yer promised, now..."

Naoto's lower lip stuck out slightly in a childish pout. She had allowed herself to lose control of the situation, and now Greed was the one holding the cards.

But she was a Shirogane detective, one who relished a challenge. There was no way she was going to back down from this case, not when so many lives were at stake. And she needed that information if she was going to turn up any leads...

When she speaks, her voice is firm. "A Shirogane never backs down from a challenge." The blush has begun to fade from her cheeks. "Besides... I have my family and loved ones to think about. I need to protect them... and I need knowledge of what I'm going to face in order to do that..."

And as her blush faded, so too did Greed's obvious amusement. His shoulders slowly sank into that faint slump that had crept over his posture since he'd situated himself out on the upper deck alone and his hands gave a slow, dull clap. "Beautiful. Just beautiful.

"But, yer in over yer head. Both in tryin' to buy me out with nothin' to offer that I'd want, and messin' with a Homunculus in a closed off space like this. You wanna see about gettin' yer 'family' or whatever to spit out the details of sealin' a soul to another body and I'll tell you somethin' about Homunculi. But, if you can't offer somethin' at least that big, you're gonna have to haggle over yer other option. That is, make me an offer 'n I'll make you a promise to come handle any problem he makes for anyone while we're on this ship, if you lemme know about it."

Normally, in this situation, Naoto could use her wealth and influence in order to push for a more favorable reaction. And while Greed certainly wouldn't turn down money, he also preferred those things with a certain rarity value. Those things which were strange and unusual. His eyes certainly lit up at the prospect of owning his own Persona... but Naoto wasn't certain the methods of obtaining own would work anymore. And even if it were possible to recreate the situation, would Greed really want to face his Shadow in order to obtain that sort of power? Probably not ( ... )

That glimmer must have been contagious; immediately Greed was slapping his hand on her shoulder and clutching again, the other hand doing a victorious fist as if the idea alone were some kind of victory. "Now we're talkin' shop! It'll be somethin' like Armor-kun, just without the soul, then? But still able to move and do shit! That's great!" So great he pulled away to laugh about it, nodding again to himself. "That's great!" Whipping around to face her, he beamed, flashing his teeth in a grin so huge it would probably seem dangerous for the sheer mania to it. There were too many good points in this potential to begin to list, the least of which was an untiring slave! And still he wanted to be made happier.

"Tell me about all the stuff it can do!"

"R-Right..." Naoto said, nodding a bit. "Except an android looks more like a human rather than an empty suit of armor. Depending on how detailed you want it, it can appear nearly indistinguishable from an ordinary human being ( ... )
