The ceremony of innocence is drowned

Feb 01, 2009 00:18

The fighting had started all across America. According to Bastion, a significant number of the X-men were involved in the combat in New York.

Which meant that the children here were left all alone. There would be no one to save them this time.

He gave the first unit the signal to advance.

Several heavily armed helicopters flew in low as they headed towards the mansion. The moment they were in range, they began to circle around, and hit the building with a barrage of missiles.

Each missile found their target. The mansion was rocked by a series of explosions.

The only thing louder than the missiles exploding were the screams of the children. Caught unaware, many of them had been injured and killed in the initial attack.

The mansion was not defenseless, though. Multiple anti-aircraft turrets and missile launchers popped out of the ground, returning fire.

A few of the choppers were hit, and crashed to the ground in a fiery explosion.

The second team advanced in. Dozens of SUV's, packed with both Reavers and Purifiers, crashed through the front gates and stormed the mansion.

The automated defenses of the mansion were their primary targets, and once those were taken out, their next stop was into the mansion itself.

Pierce licked his lips. With the situation in such disarray, the kids and the Protocols would be easy pickings.

“A years pay to whoever brings me the head of Kevin Ford!”

He and his men charged the school, heading straight for the front doors. Only when they were a few feet away, they collided with an invisible wall.

“What in the-!?”

The Cuckoo sisters stood inside Cerebro. Network had opened it up for them, which they had thanked her for tersely. They didn't have time for more than that. There were helmets in there for each one of them.

Each one of them put it on, and mentally it was like opening the door and stepping into a whole new world.

Each girl's astral form was the reflection of some part of them. They looked at eachother.

Then all five looked at Phoebe. Who was a Blood Elf Warlock.

What?

Now REALLY isn't the time for this. This is NOT a video game.

You're right, Celeste. Now ISN'T the time. So guys... let me lead, please? Sophie asked, and all of her sisters consented. True, they weren't a true hive mind. But when Sophie took control it was close enough.

We are ready all five said at once.

Sarah Vale AKA Network got dragged into this affair as well, her astral form was actually not much more different then herself, except the fact that she was wearing a very ornate black gown, and she shined with a brilliant black aura.

Being a Cyberpath gave her access to so much information, that it's not surprising that her aura was so dark.

Good, because this place gives me the creeps. She said, as she interfaced the cyber plane of the the Xavier's network with the astral plane they were on, as they were instructed to do to properly retrieve these files.

We still have to do our job all five of the Cuckoo sisters intoned at once through Sophie.

Each girl shined in her color. Sophie was pink, and had donned a pair of swan's wings. She stood in the center of her sisters. To her left, Mindee's aura was blue, and seemed to be swimming with music, even her clothes seemed alive with it. And Esme's green aura seemed jagged and harsh but meshed in with the group anyway.

To Sophie's right there was Phoebe, yellow and brilliant like the sun she was named for, looking like a Blood Elf from Wow and holding a staff, her sisters now were not paying attention to the fact she was being a nerd about this. And to the far right was Celeste, cold, cool and purple her garb Grecian in style and her eyes dark violet pits.

All five colors mixed together around Sophie.

This is your plane, tell us where to look and we will keep you safe. The Astral plane could be a dangerous place. Even mixed with the "cyber" plane the Cuckoos weren't out of their element. Here, the five creepy little girls radiated ( ... )

This wasn't the first time Sarah had projected herself onto the Cyberplane, but it was the first time that she was all there on a psionic level as well. It was a bit of an odd sensation for her, but something she got used to quickly.

We are going to need to tread lightly, to get past the defenses that are set up. There are going to be defenses both on a psionic and cyber level. There's only two people in the world that can get past these defenses, and us as well if we work together.

She stretched her arms forward and they turned into cables, interfacing with the cyber plane.

The basic cyber defences are now down, but this isn't going to be that easy. She said grimly.

Sooraya looked out at where Julian's shield had all but flattened the oncoming assault. It had given them a moment's respite, and for that, she was glad.

She'd spent a lot of time wondering exactly what this moment would feel like - what it would mean to defend this place.

The dreams were incomparable to reality. She cast her eyes over her fellow students, grinning as best as she could at them, to provide them with some sort of encouragement. Some of them were steely-faced, others looked scared.

Sam's communique rang loud and true in her head, and she turned to sand with a small paff of air.

The Purifiers were rising to their feet; regrouping.

She wouldn't let them get very far with that.

The message is heard loud and clear. Granite skin is bristling with anger, adrenaline, and drive all directed toward obeying the distinct urge to pulverize Purifiers. Santo might not have been able to do this the first time around, but he'd be damned if he missed a second opportunity.

"Time for these bitches to get the hell off our lawn, I'd say." His body immediately sets upon making that happen by running toward one the many SUVs. "In fact, don't even get outta the car!" Rockslide sends it flying on impact with two tons of force through his fists.

Pierce seethed as he picked himself up off the ground. If these brats wanted to put up a fight, he'd be more than happy to give them one.

"Reavers, forward!"

Claws extended, Pierce charged straight into the battle.

"Everyone group up! Hold hands and stick together!" Lila yelled to the assembled students. Her teleportation powers didn't require touch, but she didn't need one of the little buggers getting left behind during their layover on her Dyson sphere. The drawback of her powers, that she could only travel interstellar distances, was never more obvious than now. At least by using Muir Island as a drop zone, it guaranteed the kids wouldn't stuck in space should anything happen to her.

"All set?" she called, surveying the group. Damn, but there were a lot of kids here. She'd have to take them in shifts. "All right, first batch, form up! The rest of you, sit tight!"

BZZZAAAOOORT. Lila and the first group of kids disappear.

Doc Reyes kept herself in front of the door, biting her lip when she wasn't barking orders for the kids to stay gathered up in their groups before being teleported.

"First group is clear! Second group, into the marked area! Stay close for when she returns!"

She returned her gaze to the doors, expecting to hear pounding on them at any moment. No Reaver was going to lay even one filthy finger on these children if she had anything to say about it.

There's a flash of light as Lila returns alone. "First group's safe at Muir. Next group, gather 'round! We leave in one minute!" She wishes she could take them immediately, the whole group at once, but she needs the breather. Her heart is racing from the adrenaline and the exertion. She's not used to 'porting such large groups.

"Everyone ready?" Scared faces nod at her. "Let's go!" Another flash of light, another batch of students whisked away to safety.

One part of Rylee wanted to be out there helping everyone with the fight. The part of her that had actual common sense recognized that she wasn't quite thirteen yet, and her powers were non-combative. Not a winning combination for being anything other than a liability. She did eventually figure out one very useful application of them if she needed to defend herself, though. She could use her powers to temporarily blind someone.

Because of that, she had insisted on being in the last group that would get teleported away. There were adults here to defend the kids, and it would be easier to defend against blinded scumbags than ones that could accurately aim.

She held her aluminum baseball bat nervously in one hand, well aware that it would do absolutely nothing against anyone who successfully barged in here. It was more of a comfort thing than anything else.

There was one way she could be useful, though. She'd packed snacks in her pockets. She could always give one to Lila so the teleporter could regain a little bit of energy ( ... )

The physical attacks did, at best, merely superficial damage. His endoskeleton was laced with adamantium, so a few hits from Santo barely put a dent in him, and Dust's sandstorm only scratched the surface, damaging some of Pierce's "skin", but nothing more substantial than that.

Ricochet's EMP disc was more effective, and once it went off, Pierce was as functional as a lawn gnome. For the next twenty or so seconds, at least. All fo his critical systems were shielded from that kind of attack, and his secondary systems were already rebooting.

Poke at the giant lawn gnome at your own peril, children.

Johnny hollered back before heading over to secure Hellion's phalanx. "Either get him pinned, or have someone get him miles away!" He flitted off across the grounds.

"He looks tough," she said in an undertone, backing away.

She knew she didn't have the power to send him away. She started to look around frantically for someone who could.

Sofia seemed to fit the bill. The mass of sand retreated, ducking behind bushes and pillars as she went searching. She wasn't going to call out this time and ping Pierce as to what was going on, because -

- yes, already he was starting to get up.

Not good.
