The Day From Hell - Crazy Things Tend to Happen When the Inmates Are Running The Asylum

The X-Men had left. All of them, and had left every last one of the students behind. The situation in Bellingham was drastic enough to warrant this action. All the students were told, in no uncertain terms, to remain on the grounds until the X-Men returned ( Read more... )

Laura was in her room as usual. She was reading a book she had pilfered from the library and for once there wasn't any Guthries barging in.

A disembodied voice broke in on her thoughts, Laura, Julian wants you to suit up and meet him out back in fifteen minutes. We have a mission.

The telepaths around the mansion were just as bad as the horde of Guthries barging into the room.

I'll be there.

She climbed off the bed and put on her uniform.

Thankfully, with Calvin gone, the sisters were once again fully connected. Though they normally didn't care much for the welfare of others, now they were wondering how they could find Kevin first.

Before they managed to find him. And make an example out of him. Each sister had a rather large headache but that didn't stop talking amongst themselves. The beds they were on, they pulled until they were in a circle. Mindee was clutching a pillow and each girl looked a bit worse for wear as they talked silently.

Maybe we should try to get into Cerebo, Celeste suggested. It was practical and it was to the point.

But we don't know if we can use it on our own, Sophie pointed out, We've only been in there once, with the Professor. It can't be that easy to get in there.

We'll never know if we don't try... Phoebe said, pushing some hair out of her face.

How would we even get in? Mindee asked, hugging the pillow to her chest. The room is locked, isn't it?

Do we even need to? Esme asked. I mean, we could try it on our own, just ( ... )

Where is Kevin Ford?

It'd be nice if he knew too.

Still, he knew for sure that he was still in the United States.

Not in Mexico.

And not in Canada.

Which was nice, since he didn't speak Mexican or Canadian.

He bit his lip.

On the other hand, maybe moving there would have been a smarter idea.

He hides in a heavily forested area in New York, sucking the life force off of a grove of trees.

The hunger's gotten worse.

Much worse.

Bad enough to where he's even been tempted to go for the wildlife around here.

But he hasn't.

Not yet.

There.

There. They had him. Well, the general location. The five glowing girls, each one's aura a slightly different hue (pink, blue, green, yellow and purple) mixing together smiled at the exact same time.

Two tasks were then done at the same time.

Julian, come here. We've found him.

And the other four to Kevin, It's okay., Mindee said.

We've found you. Sophie spoke up, trying to ease the hunger pains. They didn't let on they didn't know exactly where he was.

Stay there, we're going to come and get you, Celeste said coolly.

We've got you. Esme said, and even managed a little comfort.

Found who, darling?

She had him curious to say the least, though.

Sal, the unwitting caretaker of the place while each and every single X-Man had gone off to the other side of the country, was currently on the back patio in sight of the cafeteria, laying on a picnic table, chain-smoking like she'd never chain-smoked before.

So she had been put up to taking care of an entire mansion that she barely knew the layout of, with a bunch of kids she only knew peripherally...

...all because she was twenty.

"I hate you, Summers," she muttered to herself, taking another long drag.

Since Sal was in charge, it was officially Rylee's turn to try to push her luck. A little. She wasn't going to give the young woman grief...but there was no harm in testing out the rules a little.

"Can I go to the mall?" she asked as she approached.

Through the white haze of Marlboro Lights, Sal squinted at Rylee.

"Didn't take someone long to start pushin'. The answer's no, b'y. We got people outside tryin' t' kill us, so yer stayin right here."

She folded her arms, and despite being five foot tall, her expression and body language clearly stated that this point was not up for discussion.

"Do you really think they're going to come after us or something?" asked Rylee, hands on her hips. "It's not like I'm gonna go to the mall walking around with big sign that says 'Hi, I'm a mutant' and a target on my chest."

Josh was heading for the rec room because he knew that would be the likely place to find his girlfriend. He was annoyed and needed someone to be with who wouldn't send him off into spastic fits. All the X-Men left for something big and heavy, and the best healer on the premises wasn't needed. In fact, he was shut down hard from even going.

He bet the X-Men weren't even going to keep an eye out for that Kevin Ford kid. He stopped himself from punching the wall. Dumb adults. He took a deep breath before entering the rec room.

At least the sight of one of the people in there made him feel a little better. That might have been selfish, but he didn't care. He carefully made his way over to beside Laurie.

"Hey. How's it going?"

Laurie had been reading the ticker at the bottom of the screen, because she didn't care too much about the local issue involving city limits and votes. She was worried about the current hot-button issue of course, the newest mutant crisis, and the ticker kept everyone in the room updated on... The lack of updates. Still, her attention was drawn to it, and so Josh's voice seemed very suddenly beside her. She might have started a bit, looking up.

"Same ol', same ol'." It applied to both her status and the status of the news, really. She uncurled from her spot on a recliner to face him, reaching out to touch his arm briefly. "How about you?"

"They didn't want me," he muttered. Then he shrugged and dropped it. No point dwelling on it.

"Didn't mean to startle you." Josh reached out to catch her hand and hold it. He glanced at the TV for second. He didn't like the news anymore. Not since his parents were interviewed. He looked back at Laurie. Definitely a better view.

"It's fine, I was just..." Laurie gestured towards the television with her free hand. The whole downer situation was creeping into her skin, it felt heavy in the air.

Wallflower sighed unconsciously, curling her fingers around his and swinging his arm playfully. "Have you eaten yet?"

Lucy left the medlab twitching happily now that there were no adults around (if they could avoid their older siblings anyway) to stop their plans! She hadn't told Lewis their plans yet, but she would.

And he'd go along with it. First! To tear him away from whatever boring thing he was working on.

She went to the room they were sharing. Lucy was glad they were sharing a room. It made tracking him down easier.

"LEWIS!!!!!!!!"

Lewis had the pieces of an FM radio spread out on his bed. He'd spent quite some time carefully disassembling it, and now wanted to try to put it back together. Without the help of the book on his desk.

He was about to get started when Lucy made her grand entrance. He glanced over at her, a little frustrated. "Lucy! What?"

"How come you didn't hafta go to the medlab?" she asked, jumping on his bed looking at him frankly. The head screaming had knocked her out, it wasn't fair that he stayed awake during it.

"Careful!" Lewis quickly pushed the radio pieces away from his sister and the edge of the bed.

"Maybe it's 'cause Ah ain't a baby," he shrugged, "Ah dunno. Ah was doin' stuff, not really paying attention."
