Lucy left the medlab twitching happily now that there were no adults around (if they could avoid their older siblings anyway) to stop their plans! She hadn't told Lewis their plans yet, but she would.

And he'd go along with it. First! To tear him away from whatever boring thing he was working on.

She went to the room they were sharing. Lucy was glad they were sharing a room. It made tracking him down easier.

"LEWIS!!!!!!!!"

Lewis had the pieces of an FM radio spread out on his bed. He'd spent quite some time carefully disassembling it, and now wanted to try to put it back together. Without the help of the book on his desk.

He was about to get started when Lucy made her grand entrance. He glanced over at her, a little frustrated. "Lucy! What?"

"How come you didn't hafta go to the medlab?" she asked, jumping on his bed looking at him frankly. The head screaming had knocked her out, it wasn't fair that he stayed awake during it.

"Careful!" Lewis quickly pushed the radio pieces away from his sister and the edge of the bed.

"Maybe it's 'cause Ah ain't a baby," he shrugged, "Ah dunno. Ah was doin' stuff, not really paying attention."

"What you mean you ain't a baby? We're th' same age! Ah ain't a baby either! Sam 'n Paige 'n all the grownups have gone somewhere. Said it was 'bout that town on the news. So... wanna go do something? Yuh'll need your lockpicks," Lucy said sagely.

They just had to fly under the Jaydar.

"Yeah, but Ah ain't no girl neither." Still, Lucy always did come up with good ideas. Getting up, Lewis reached under his mattress to find the lockpicks. He had to hide them in case the older siblings staged a raid.

"Where we goin'?"

"I dunno. But there's alotta locked rooms in the basement!" Lucy said brightly. "Ah just wanna see what's down there!"

"They've probably got lots more gadgets and stuff down there, don't they?" Lewis was sold. He stood up and headed for the door.

"Yeah they do," Lucy said skipping on after him. The headache had faded and the energy was back on high. "Ah don't see how yuh can say Ah passed out 'cause Ah am a girl," Lucy said catching up with him.

They could take the elevator down... if it needed a passcode, Lewis could fix that.

"It wasn't just 'cause Ah'm a girl," Lucy returned. Lewis was smart, but sometimes he was so dumb! "And yuh don't hafta worry 'bout the adults. They all went on the plane to that town. Haven't yah been watchin' th' news?" Lucy said, skipping so she was in front of her twin and walking backwards.

"Nah, Ah've been in our room." With the door shut, and without Lucy coming and going, it was easy to lose track of what was going on.

"How can yuh not watch the TV! There's this town in Washington - the state, not the city - where everyone's gonin' crazy and attackin' everyone else. Paige and Sam and everyone went to get it all sorted out. Ah guess all the mutants went crazy and are attackin' all the other people! So we're all alone, pretty much. Just us kids!" Lucy said brightly as they got to the elevator and she opened it. This part was easy, the elevator went up as well as down so it was open to everyone.

"Can you get it tuh take us to the basement?"

"TV's boring. Ah like fiddling better."

Lewis followed her into the elevator and turned to the control panel, frowning. "Sure, Ah guess."

If they had to break it so he could get to the wires, they'd be in trouble for sure. But nope, there was a little panel to let him in. That was nice of 'em. After that it was a few minutes' concentrated work before the elevator started moving. He was getting better at this!

"Yuh should at least watch th' news sometime," Lucy said as they went down, down and down! Into the magical basement of wonders. "Wanna try to get into the control room of the room with the Giant Stingy Space Wasps?"
