Pat and I experienced something similar with the Fireflies at the Churchill Woods forest preserve. It was actually sort of lucky we did see them because were in the middle of an argument, and they reminded us of more important things than our little squabble. It was impressive seeing that many fireflies everywhere blinking. I think I said something similar to you: "Look Pat! Fairies!"

I've been most sad that there haven't been all that many lightning bugs around, though. I think I've only seen about three of them, this year.
