Bug Magic
I have come to believe more and more that magic is all around us, it just takes the right frame of mind to see it and appreciate it! ;)
Two stories come to mind, both involving (surprise, surprise! ;) insects!
1. A couple of weeks ago I was in the back yard hanging out in a chair at dusk, and I see more and more fire flies lighting up the yard the more I looked! First above the open lawn area nearby, next at the darker back corner of the yard under the Japanese maple, then along the hedges and plants on the side of the yard. My yard is not very large, and soon the whole area was a flashing series of little beetley lights, silently looking for mates! It appeared like a group of fairies was visiting the yard! Magic!
2. Sally was out watering the pots by the house in the front yard, and Lizzy comes inside and tells me that unless I take the cicada, mom is going to water it! Outside, I see a cicada in one of the pots, but it blends in pretty well. I gently pick it up and let it sit on my hand, and admire the coppery/golden spots on its face. Lizzy holds her hand out, and I put the cicada near her finger, when it suddenly flies away, brushing against my face with it gossamer wings on its fast flight to freedom. Lizzy laughs in delighted surprise. Magic! :)
