Dicotomy of Naps

How come when everyone else in the world takes a nap or siesta, they wake up revitalized or at the very least feeling a little bit better, but when i try to take a nap I end up feeling dizzy, sick to my stomach, and always considerably worse than I felt when I initially lay down?  It's like everyone else can do this thing that makes them feel ( Read more... )

You're not alone. When I take naps longer then 30min I wind up tired and disorientated for up to the rest of the day. Not long ago I took a 3 hour one and woke up feeling NUMB for an hour, as in "I can't feel my legs" numb.

Also you should NEVER take naps right after eating/drinking something with sugar and/or caffeine.

I have problems with naps and have been for a very long time. Only time it doesn't happen is when I'm ill - at that point, my body desperately needs the sleep and I wake up feeling better.

Seems like everyone's nap habits are different - one of the obvious cases of YMMV, and can be really annoying - I usually advocate to just listen to one's body, but in this case it doesn't always know what is good for it!

They don't always work... I found that a 40 to 180 minute one tends to work usually... but I rarely take them any more.

It might help to listen to the following while drifting off if absolute quiet doesn't work.

Smooth Jazz...
slow classical music...
news/talk radio during a slow news day.
