Veronica closed her laptop. Between braving the Black Friday crowds and taking advantage of Cyber Monday, she had all of her Christmas shopping done.

Piper wandered out of her room and settled on the couch with one of her textbooks. "Who were you talking to on the phone?"

Piper rubbed her head. "Demons and the government."

"... the government? Seriously?" Veronica was baffled.

"I don't really understand it myself," Piper sighed. "All I know is, some version of me abandoned her kids."

"Hey, it wasn't you," Veronica said. "I can't imagine you ever doing something like that."

"I hope I never have to make a decision like that," Piper said. "I told them I would always be there for them even if I'm not really their mom."

"Of course you did," Veronica said with a small smile. "Because that's the kind of person you are."

She worried her lip for a moment before asking, "Do you think you'll ever have them in this dimension?"

"I think about that a lot," Piper said. "But I honestly don't know. If I ever have kids, though, I'm not gonna abandon them."

"No, you won't," Veronica said. "Because you'll have resources that their Piper didn't have. Whatever they were up against, with your friends from Fandom, it wouldn't be an issue for you."

Piper nodded and smirked. "Exactly. And I don't think any demon or government official would want to deal with their Aunt Veronica."

"Exactly," Veronica grinned. "Don't blame yourself for things your alternate reality selves did."

Piper nodded. "I know, but I can't help feeling responsible. I feel like I should make up for what she did, you know?"

Veronica nodded. "I don't think there's anything wrong with that. Some part of them is made from some part of you. In a manner of speaking. And they're good kids."

"They are," Piper agreed. "Though I have to wonder if they will ever want to spend the holidays with me ever again."

She shook her head and laughed a little.

"What the hell were we smoking that we thought putting Logan, Bel and Angel and you, me and Anders in the same room was a good idea?"

"I don't know," Piper said. "I swear I didn't make special brownies."
