Piper wandered into the kitchen mostly because it was one her favorite places in the hotel. Also, she couldn't resist the aroma of Italian food.

"Hey," she greeted as she approached Veronica. "Need any help?"

"Sure! Want to help me chop veggies for the salad?" Veronica asked.

"No problem," Piper replied, reaching for a knife. "Haven't seen you around much. Still in the newlywed phase, huh?"

Veronica shrugged. "Yeah, I guess."

Phoebe came wandering in after she had changed from business suit to something more comfortable.

"Something smells good."

"Hopefully it will taste as good as it smells," Veronica said with a grin.

"Of course it will," Phoebe said getting something to drink. She turned to smile at her friend. "How's married life?"

"It's... interesting, I guess," Veronica said. "It doesn't really feel like anything has changed, so."

Bel wandered into the kitchen and immediately zeroed in on Veronica. "Tell me there's meat in that sauce," he said, coming up behind her.

"There's meat in that sauce," Veronica repeated, turning to face him and um, okay, that was a bad idea, so she turned around again immediately.

"Awww yeah," Bel said, grinning. "You know what I like, baby."

Veronica made a face and was glad that her back was turned to him. Slicing bread was so interesting.

"Oh, yeah," she said. "It was just for you."

Anders didn't get in until a little later, owing to a late class and his bus home getting caught in a traffic jam coming through the Cahuenga Pass on the southbound 101 . . . because of a line of ducklings walking placidly down the #2 lane. In case you thought traffic on the Hollywood Freeway wasn't bad enough on a holiday weekend.

Walking into the lobby, he immediately caught a whiff of lasagna and followed his nose to the kitchen. "I smell food. Frak, did I forget someone's birthday?"

Veronica laughed. "No, I just figured that a big family style dinner was a nice way to kick off a holiday weekend."

She was being nice to Anders, yes. Because he was one of the only people she hadn't run into in bizarro land.

She was being nice to him. That was kind of freaky, so Anders shot her a suspicious glance.

"Okaaaaaaaaaay. Something's up, isn't it?"

"Huh? No, why would you think that?" Veronica asked, turning to look at him with confusion.

"So I got some of everything," Dick said, coming into the kitchen with a paper bag under each arm.

Yeah, like he knew what went with dinner.

Veronica snickered but took the bags. "Well, I'm sure it won't go to waste. Thanks."

"Alcohol buying is a task that I will never ever screw up," Dick said solemnly.

"Why do you think I asked you to?" Veronica asked.
