I went to a barbecue this evening that cheered me right up. In attendence were hippies, Japanese people, and Japanophiles. And a whole enormous load of food, including fruit-and-vegetable shish kebabs, mango-onion-avocado salsa, mashed potatoes with coconut milk in them, tempeh, veggie smokey dogs, and noodle-parsley salad. I finished the seventh Harry Potter book on the weekend. It was awesome! Now I'm reading Typee by Herman Melville, which is a semi-autobiographical account of living with a tribe on an obscure island in the South Pacific. Melville is brilliant.
