My Kindle arrived yesterday! I am very very excited about it!! Adam is a good gift-buyer. I never would have bought a Kindle for myself, but I totally love having one. The first book I'm reading on it is Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!, which is okay. I love that you can download the first chapter of a book before you buy it, to check it out. I've been watching two shows that have been on my back burner for years: Dexter and Deadwood. Adam and I have been watching Deadwood together, and it's pretty much 100% awesome 100% of the time. Etymology coming full circle
Today I learned that “govern” and “governor” come from the same root as “cybernetics”. Think of the ‘c’ originally being a ‘k’ sound, and then you’ve got the Greek root “kubernetes” (to govern). In Latin the velar ‘k’ sound became voiced, and you had “gubernator”, which was “govern” or “helm”, i.e. the spot on the ship where governing happens. Then ( Read more... ) -

The True Blood finale was pretty sucky. I downloaded it and I'm going to re-watch it and then I'll post my thoughts. It just seems like there were a few satisfying and/or funny scenes, a bunch of WTF and pointless shit, and then some really lame stuff. Yay, two-day work week!
I posted a bunch of Burning Man pics on my Tumblr.
We're still unpacking and cleaning up. Maybe I will have some writing time this evening. Short summary: it was awesome, the weather was great, and I feel very inspired and I've written down many plans for next year.

They don't have Target in Canada, and I'd never been there before. Ho-lee shit, I bought a lot of clothes there for insanely reasonable prices. So yay for that!
Also, I'm reading the new David Mitchell book, The Thousand Autumns of Jacob De Zoet, and it's completely awesome, just like all of his books. I actually got a lot of books in the Bay Area ( Read more... ) -
Delta: never again
That was probably the worst day of traveling I've ever experienced. Fuck Delta Airlines. We missed our connection and they tried to convince us to stay in Salt Lake City overnight (we insisted they at least get us to Seattle tonight), they forgot Adam's bag in Salt Lake City, and we had to pay for our own bus fare from Seattle to Vancouver.
