mynorthwind, you might appreciate this.

OK. I have a bit of a gripe. I'm sick and tired of people talking shit about Memphis City Schools and their graduates. All I ever hear about MCS is all the morons that graduates from the system. It's like if you went to MCS you must be stupider just by association. And it sucks. I graduated from a Memphis city school and ( Read more... )

I verily appreciate and understand. To be honest, some teachers at my school had given up on their kids, but that was not the case for all of us and certainly not for the entire, HUGE district of schools/kids.

Keep arguing with folks about the MCS = stupid stereotype and I will do the same!

Is it the parents' fault? Yes, in some cases it is. But, ultimately the school is the entity responsible for education. I went to MCS when I was in high school. I actually wanted to learn something, anything, however, what did I wake up for? Everyday was the same, boring crap. I would literally get into the classroom and sit there while my teachers read whatever magazine they wanted to read while the students sat there..and did nothing. Needless to say, I eventually got tired of going and that is what caused me to drop out. It wasn't my parents, it wasn't me, but the school that decided not to give a shit about giving an education to their students. While this was a long time ago, I'm sure the school I went to is either the same, if not worse. I hope I'm not angering you with this comment, but it is how I feel about the MCS, given my time spent there.
