I'm wary of getting my hopes up about movies. It's so much easier to be let down than impressed, and where expectations are set can really have an effect on the experience.

Good, solid action movie. The characters work. Really, I had fun and there's little to be critical of.
Perhaps my only complaint is that the heroes go off in search of answers to what's going on and the evil plot basically gets info-dumped on them (and the audience). Sorta clunky, but it didn't really take me out of the experience.

Y'know, I don't want to disrespect the work involved in CGI, but I love hearing about physical effects in movies. I haven't watched the others, but the Aliens documentary linked here was a blast for me. Three hours is a long video to watch, but hearing about the behind-the-scenes stuff for a movie that's a favorite of mine is great.

After some insistence and with a desire to do something with my afternoon, I went to see Frozen. No regrets there. Disney had me with their releases for several years, but I got older and it became less of a given. Good movie in general, if not very surprising either. The first half did a little too much telling and skipping around rather than showing, but things solidify a bit better as the movie goes on. Still, enjoyable overall.

I would so watch the heck out of this.

What can I say, I love Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark. He's a genius tinkerer who has a massive ego, but is also extremely self-aware of his faults. He can't always avoid then, and sometimes even embraces them, but he's in no way blind to what he is ( Read more... )

So, Saturday I went to see The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. It was long, which I knew going in. It was generally fun and has nice tie-ins to the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
