My ramblings about Merlin 4x11 - let me share them ;)

All in all, I liked this episode as a whole much more than last week’s, strangely enough. It had its weaknesses and even a boring stretch or two, but the underlying mood worked much better for me this time around, even though the story itself wasn’t too inspiring. But it was once again the interactions between our boys and what it might mean for ( Read more... )

"...once again, Arthur allows Merlin to see him at a weak point. Once again, he opens up to him and actively seeks his advice as a way of apology and reinstating Merlin back to being more than just his servant. It is so true to Arthur’s character to let actions speak instead of words: he’s sorry for treating Merlin harshly and for disregarding him once again - he’s trying to make amends ( ... )

I feel like they're building up this rift between Merlin and Arthur on purpose and it scares me.

You know, I'm expecting a major fallout between them after the reveal. I've braced myself for the impact, the pain. I expect it to be BAD. But I didn't want it to hurt *before* we even got there! I wanted it to hurt because up until then, it was all so beautiful, and they were all emotional and close and just such boys with their ridiculous feelings and hearteyes, and all that - and we HAD all that up until 4x07. Why are they taking it all away already? *wails ( ... )

Exactly. Everything has been so good up until the past few episodes. I thought they were building up their relationship so nicely so that when a reveal happened it would hurt that much more for them. I don't understand why they're building up this tension between them. :'(

"Oh boys... Whether you slash them or not, THIS is the stuff that is at the core of the series and makes it work so well."

Amen. They are the reason I watch this show. Their relationship is epic whether you slash them or not, and the chemistry is undeniable.

Loved your review, especially what you said about Merlin and Arthur in the beginning - those were the things I loved most about this episode too. <3 Even though this new frostiness between the boys does seem to come out of nowhere after the spectacular bonding from the first half of the season ... but the writers are clearly building up to a huge fallout after the big reveal (IT'S GONNA BREAK MY HEART!!!), which will HOPEFULLY be resolved by the end of 4x13, and the ending of the season will be all the happier for it :-)))). (yes, I'm extremely optimistic about the finale :D ( ... )

You know what's funny? I came to this series as an Arwen shipper. I still have a soft spot for it, though the Merlin-Arthur has rapidly become my main focus and trumps everything, but still - I can be quite fond of Arwen, so let me tell you it's NOT a good sign when Arthur's interaction with another woman wins me over in less than one episode. I love Gwen, I like that they're giving Angel more to do (though it's still a horrendously contrived plot) - but Arthur and Mithian *worked* for me. She was almost a bit too perfect, but in such a charming way that she got under my skin. Her scene with Merlin where she asked him for a chance had me searching for pompoms, so I could cheer her on, LOL! The writers didn't exactly do themselves a favor by making her competition... *g* It was only Arthur's shaken reaction to finding Gwen's ring that had me go "Ok, I get why he rejects her eventually, he's finally done with repressing his feelings and has realized he's not ready yet" - but it was such a close call, wasn't it ( ... )

I'm a bit less optimistic about the finale, now that I've realized there will be GUEST STARS (why? why?), which means drawing even more attention AWAY from Merlin and Arthur ... why can't they just stick to what WORKS and what this show is all about?!?

I'm with you, "The Last Dragonlord" was a glorious finale. Oh, and Merlin kicking Nimueh's ass. I miss powerful!badass!Merlin, hope we get to see him again soon.

OMG, no internet until mid-January?!? That's ... horrible! But maybe the ep will be worth the wait, eh? Fingers crossed ...

Oh, it BETTER be worth the wait - I know I'll be biting my nails until I get back to my computer on Jan 9th, so I don't want to have to pay for a manicure deluxe for nothing! ;)

Yes, the finale seems pretty stuffed, what with all the things we've seen in the trailer (invasion of Camelot, flight, Excalibur, new characters/guest stars, and Gwen should feature in there somewhere as well, etc.). I'm getting worried. That's why "The Last Dragonlord" was my favorite - they dealt sufficiently with Camelot issues, with Uther's incompetence, with the Arwen, but eventually they went back to focus on Merlin and the friendship with Arthur. I hope they don't try to reach for too much and have it all fizzle out. (and it better not turn out to be like that supposedly leaked description of the finale - that was just lame) The beginning of the season was so full of promise, if we were still at that level I'd have absolutely no doubts, but the last couple of eps have shaken my faith a bit.

Totally agree that I want the focus back on the Merlin-Arthur friendship, and the Merlin storyline in particular. We gotta move that thing forward, it's just getting stale. The season finale is gon' be cray cray - the whole guest stars thing makes me nervous though, because I'm afraid we WON'T see any of what I want ( ... )

How has no one noticed?

YES. YESYESYES! When he healed Gwen, I had hope, for one nano-second, that at least *someone* would find out. It was a glorious feeling. It had me more excited than all the action scenes put together this season - goosebumps, gasping, jumping to the edge of my seat - it was all there. Of course they couldn't go through with it or have Gwen question how she was so magically healed even though she had an arrow sticking in her thigh the day before. Just... ARGH! I honestly howled at that point, and it was the full moon - God knows what my neighbours were thinking ( ... )

Yeah if you take out the fact that it's only implied that Merlin is trying to get Gwen and ARthur back togther, a lot of those scenes he just comes off as jealous.

Yeah, Arthur does have a big heart and does forgive easily. It's a notable difference between him and Morganag/Uther. He doesn't hold a grudge.

I LOVED the princess! She was perfect for Arthur! Plus she was a well written character, but I'm sure it's the last we'll see of her. Shame.

I get Morgana's hate towards Gwen. She did betray Morgana at the end of season three. And Morgana isn't like Arthur. She doesn't take betrayal well.

YES! It was an odd mix between a kid trying to come between his Dad and his new girlfriend and the actions of a jealous ex. The writers were probably going for Merlin being the voice of Arwen, but it didn't come across like that for me, and Colin certainly didn't play it like that. Just look at his face when Arthur announces his intention to marry Mithian. That's not the face of someone who was upset on his friend's behalf, it was much more personal, like his heart was on the line. I know, I may be slightly biased here, but hey, I take my pleasure where I can get it. I shall view all such scenes through my rainbow coloured Merthur glasses from now on - the show is infinitely more fun that way! :D ( ... )
