can't you just get N. tested for dyslexia and be done with it? earlier is better for working with him if he is dyslexic and if he's not you'll have test results to relieve the in-laws, right?

I suppose, but there's no reason for it. Nobody but Grandpa thinks he's possibly dyslexic, and that's only because Grandpa wants everyone to be like him.
