I argue that Captain John is a bit smarter than our Master, sadly. Like, they're both evil geniuses but Captain John does 87 percent less speechifying. "I am going to kill everyone you love." Oh. Well, that was quick and to the point.

Of course, these sexy villains seem to enjoy tying Jack up by the wrists and torturing him. So they have that in common.

Tosh is even more bad-ass by the fact that she did hard prison time. Hey, did you catch her mom's Japanese? I tried but it was too fast and shouty. All I heard was "blah blah blah so..."

Okay, I'll give you that Capt. John doesn't exactly mince words there. :) But the whole bit in "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" where he's like, why stay here on this backwater planet when you and I could go have the run of the galaxy together? Yeah, Captain John is so cribbing from the Master's playbook. Or, should I say, the writers are.

I think all Tosh's mother said was something like "okaasan no koto dou datte ii'n da kara", so "It doesn't matter what happens to me." Or some such? Everyone's a bit all upset that UNIT went all Guantanamo Bay on poor Tosh. I've already retconned it in my head, though, that it was all somehow Torchwood One's doing, masquerading as UNIT to force Tosh into working for Torchwood. Um, or something like that.

I like your UNIT theory. Makes more sense than their trying to destroy my rather fond memory of that organisation.

And I agree. The Master is better than John. Full time.
Master > any other villain. No, I'm not at all objective, whyever do you ask?
Actually I don't know what to make of his motivations. The abandones lover stuff seems a bit off.
