Request for a university project about fandoms

Apr 04, 2011 23:01

Livejournal is a place full of fandoms. Because of this, we decided to look for people who could help us out with our project over here.

We’re 4 university students working on an English project. Our university is having a week dedicated to languages and since we’re from the first year of Applied Languages, we’re going to play a part in it.

Fandom
1. Where did you first hear about fandom? I stumbled upon online fandoms when I was 11, 12, basically 10-11 years ago
2. How did you get in contact with a fandom for the first time? This is a strange question to me, because you're treating fandom as if it's some entity you talk to, when it's actually something you become a part of just by posting fic or talking about it with other fans.
3. What made you want to be part of one? If I really like a show and I love a particular ship within that show, I feel compelled to follow fandom.
4. Are you an active member or do you follow from a distance? I'm somewhere in between. I do get involved with discussions sometimes, and I write somtimes, and I use tumblr fairly regularly, but I'm mostly a lurker.

22. Do you think they cover every situation or do you find yourself wondering which rating you should use for your story? They do cover every situation, but there is a nuance to them which is tricky. I don't care about the difference between PG and PG-13, really, but I do care about the difference between PG and NC-17.

Readers and/or Proofreaders (Beta readers)
23. Do you read original fiction, fan fiction or both? The vast majority of what I read is fanfiction, though I have read original fiction from time to time - mostly what my friends have written.
24. Which one do you prefer? Fanfiction
25. Does it improve your reading skills? I have been a voracious fic reader for nearly 10 years, so I do think that it has paid off.
26. Does it widen your vocabulary? Sometimes it can, but that happened more while I was younger.
27. Do you proofread ( ... )
