Livejournal is a place full of fandoms. Because of this, we decided to look for people who could help us out with our project over here.
We’re 4 university students working on an English project. Our university is having a week dedicated to languages and since we’re from the first year of Applied Languages, we’re going to play a part in it.

22. Do you think they cover every situation or do you find yourself wondering which rating you should use for your story? They do cover every situation, but there is a nuance to them which is tricky. Luckily for us, there aren't any hard and fast rules - only that NC-17 is reserved for graphic sex, which is one of the most important ratings. I don't care about the difference between PG and PG-13, really, but I do care about the difference between PG and NC-17.
Readers and/or Proofreaders (Beta readers)
23. Do you read original fiction, fan fiction or both? The vast majority of what I read is fanfiction, though I have read original fiction from time to time - mostly what my friends have written.
24. Which one do you prefer? Fanfiction
25. Does it improve your reading skills? I have been a voracious fic reader for nearly 10 years, so I do think that it has paid off.
26. Does it widen your vocabulary? Sometimes it can, but that happened more while I was younger.
27. Do you proofread other people’s work? No.
28. If so, what do you look for when you proofread and how do you fix it/ suggest a solution?
29. Do you usually leave comments on the things you read? It's bad, but no. I hate having to come up with new ways of saying "I liked it!" every time, so I don't.
30. A good reviewer needs some skills, like honesty, great vocabulary, good knowledge of the fandom (if they're proofreading a fan fiction) and a good knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation. Which ones do you think are more important? I think knowledge of the fandom is more important, especially characterization.
31. What kind of feedback do you usually give? If I feel compelled to comment on a story, it's usually because it's amazing and as such is usually rather glowing.
32. Are you honest when it comes to correcting mistakes/commenting on a story? I don't correct mistakes, I'm not a prescriptivist. I do bring up issues with the story if and only if I otherwise enjoyed the fic. If the issue was overwhelming, usually I just stop reading.
33. When you give feedback, do you usually get a response to it? If so, what kind of things do you hear from the writer? Since most of my reviews are glowingly positive, I usually hear thanks. When I do point out issues I have with it, they're usually defensive.
