I also finished reading Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman last night.  This is my second reading of this book, though I honestly forgot most of the story beyond the base concept... a guy from our reality tumbles to the reality where lost people and lost things end up.

Yesterday, I finished reading Keep Your Pecker Up by Lyn Rafe-Lawyer.  The title is a bit of a "Oh My" type of thing, but "keep your pecker up" was a normal english phrase, like "keep a stiff upper lip."  The story spans several generations and two wars (WW1 and WW2).

Started reading Orphans of the Sky, by Robert A. Heinlein, as a quick read.  It's more of a novella than a novel.

The story was interesting enough.  Most of Heinlein's stories are interesting to a degree.  Basically, its about what would happen if humans get stranded in space, on a ship that doesn't really deteriorate.  It goes into the religious ( Read more... )

Last Sunday, I finished reading The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle.  I've read this book before (as I mentioned before I have a 1st ed. hardcover copy and a 1st ed. softcover copy).  I will honestly say that this book gets better with ever reading.  Although I loved the cartoon when I was a child, and still enjoy it, the book is much better.  ( Read more... )

This morning, I finished reading While My Sister Sleeps by Barbara Delinsky.  It was a decent book.  It seemed to focus on "life moving on" and "letting go"... and again, the idea of how much is misperceived about us while we are alive... and how that's really all that's left after we are gone.

Last week, I finished reading The Stone Diaries by Carol Shields.  It discusses the life of Daisy Goodwill, each chapter focusing on a different segment of her life (ie. Last night, I finished reading Stranger in a Strange Land by Robert A. Heinlein.  It was an interesting read.

I finished reading The World Below by Sue Miller on Monday night.  I was still trying to work past my distaste for reading that was brought on by my attempt to read The Other Boleyn Girl, so I finally just grabbed a book that looked mildly interesting in my office's "Library."  And I'm glad I did.

I tried reading The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory.  Tried is the key word.

Mary (the main character) was dimwitted, George (the brother) a not-so-subtle pervert, Anne (the sister) a viper most foul, Henry (the king) a tantruming fool, and so forth.

Ms. Gregory disregarded a lot of historical details, as well as a number of other facts.  ( Read more... )

Finished reading Little Women by Louisa May Alcott.  Pleasant story.  I laughed at time and cried heavily at other times.  All in all, it's really as I described it before... a book of lesson taken from a very "slice of life" story.  It's not the most "exciting" book, but I felt really good after reading it and found I walked away with a number of ( Read more... )
